(sudden realization) if I am ever, ever gonna have to design a game by myself from programming onward, I think I would make a rhythm-based combat game.

My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things #Thread

A crocheted black pouch with blue and purple dragon scales

Made this dragon scale pouch as a goodbye gift for a friend, pretty proud of my attempt to make it look like the colors are shifting! #crochet #dnd #ttrpg

Also prompting concern were Meta's new, looser restrictions on speech concerning topics such as gender and sexual identity, announced Thursday.โ€

dread in the sense that all omens, even the ones telling you what you wanted to hear (unsure which one this is) still instill a faint sense of fearful (if sometimes happy) dread

Cup of coffee with a poem sitting on its tray: "A place that belongs forever to whoever claims it hardest, remembers it most obsessively, wrenches it from itself, shapes it, renders it, loves it so radically that he remakes it in his own image." - Joan Didion

Idk if the barista was trying to be sweet or just fished this poem at random, but for someone suddenly so lost and unsure if I want to stay or leave London this feels like a dread omen

-cross." And my Manila-born instincts lit up, instincts that London had put to gentle sleep, and I had that bored-but-hidden-alert face and stride from Manila on, weaving around traffic jams, hand on my purse but with the wary eye for cops and white ppl that London taught me. I didnt know the basic-

I love this series so much, it just pours the very essence of what it means to BE a city, live IN a city, into a juice concentrate that I guzzle down. I remember this strange switch getting flipped in my head as soon as I crossed a street in New York and went "OH. Oh you don't wait for the light to-

As a genderfluid person, I got the chance to hang out with someone to whom I could say "I want to be a boy today" for the first time last week!

Steam added this "helpfulness system" to the recent reviews panel. Ever since, negative reviews get automatic focus, while positive reviews are hidden until they meet some unknown metric. Maybe this was needed for AAA games, but the change has really hurt indie sales.

Image of the book The City We Became open to chapter one, Starting With Manhattan, and the Battle of FDR Drive, alongside a cup of coffee with foggy London outside the window

Rereading this after finally visiting New York in person while drinking coffee at my favorite coffee shop in London ๐Ÿ’™ #nkjemisin #thecitywebecame

If you refer to your book as a "clean" romance I will not read it, not because I dont enjoy books without sex (I do!) but because you're equating sex with dirtiness and I do not need that attitude in my life or my bookshelves

I think it works well as a simple mind-mapping tool ๐Ÿ˜Š and since typing choices/links automatically spawn new chapters/text boxes, it's handy for quickly mapping out multiple choice narratives in a visual, conspiracy-board-type way. That's how I used it, personally.

Just finished Minami Lane by @blibloop.bsky.social and @dodoot.bsky.social.
What a darling snack of a game. Not every game needs to be an experience of at least 40 hours to create joy. ๐Ÿ’•

It occurs to me, after reading posts getting it spectacularly wrong, that there are a lot of misconceptions over how game studios organize and, in particular, who makes the actual decisions about what ends up in your game. Much of it is by folks who don't *try* to get it... but not all, surely. 1/๐Ÿงต

key art for Roadwarden, featuring a silhouetted figure outfitted for adventure set against mountainous terrain and a setting sun.

I (so far) played 83 different games and demos in 2024. Here's a few I feel like talking about, in roughly chronological order. (a thread)

Roadwarden

This game feels like a warm blanket with a coffee and balancing on the edge of a knife at the same time. It fully consumed my thoughts for weeks.

I use the classic, Twine, but I also haven't made anything especially expansive yet, so I can't say how well it would work for me with a bigger project.

I've said before, I have it as a contract point that my narrators have to be actual live humans (same with my editors, copyeditors, cover artists, etc). If you think your work can be sufficiently narrated by an "AI" then you are implicitly saying some very negative things about your work.
