good lord. we really have a ways to go
wait that process came directly from the CE?? i assumed it was some leftover bureaucratic nightmare
truly.
so fascinating to me when people's progressivism stops at bus riders
Mink is a fierce advocate for the marginalized--unless they ride the bus
this is the exact dynamic that's playing out at my workplace and it makes it so much harder to address actual antisemitism
how many people are unable to access the middle class because we've made housing exclusionary? how much wealth are we losing due to outdated, segregationist policies? how many kids are deprived the benefits of safe housing and good schools by NIMBYism? these are the questions to ask
i want to remind all housing advocates that you can tell journalists when their framing is off
Completely agree. I'm grateful it passed and the Council demonstrated political will, but it could have been so much more.
<2,000: how many people wrote letters of opposition about to the council about the University Blvd Corridor Plan.
229,289: how many times people boarded the M12-University Blvd bus in September 2025.
are you guys gonna acknowledge the nazi tattoo or what
Natali fought hard for the UBCP. Compromises had to be made to get this plan through, but she was always a steadfast advocate for it. that's what you're missing.
this is why my fitness influencer career never took off
I see something similar with NIMBYism. No one (well, almost no one) wants to believe that they are personally contributing to the housing shortage by blocking projects, requesting one more study, etc. It's easier to blame a developer, "corporate landlords," the list goes on.
i am begging my government to stop asking my permission to do good things
What other basic safety infrastructure do we leave up to a vote of regular residents?
and yet it happens all the time. Last year, my neighbors and i were doxxed by another neighbor for requesting sidewalks on routes to transit, shops, schools.
I attended the Univ Blvd Corridor Plan hearing last night and gave testimony. Here are my thoughts as we approach Rosh Hashanah and the Days of Awe:
in fairness, my daughter was able to use a DC park for the first time in her life recently (she is a baby)
has anyone made a joke yet about eye exams being the original peer review
We are indeed blessed to be here--and my faith tells me that we should share those blessings. Thank you for articulating that, and I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry this happened to you and Drizzy, Dan. I'm glad you're both okay and I'm glad you had the strength to write this essay.
My view: tikkun olam, as its understood in my Jewish circles, is volunteerism and certain progressive values. It gives you the warm and fuzzies.
Welcoming the stranger is harder. It requires you to leave your comfort zone. But it's what Gd demands of us.
a lot of my fellow yidden feel totally comfortable upholding segregationist policies in their own neighborhoods, but will put a "hate has no home here" sign in their yard
Not to get theological on main but MoCo politics have really pushed me to embrace the core jewish value of "welcoming the stranger" over the more popular jewish value of "tikkun olam" (repairing the world)
Thank you for your leadership!
the proposed changes reflect ZTAs he introduced!
May 2025 be the year we stop freezing neighborhoods in amber and start building more homes where people want to live.
We need to talk about how the Airbnb Christmas commercial is NIMBY
soooo frustrating. I hate the anti-prosperity attitude. this county and state has given me so much--i want to see it grow and thrive and continue to support others!
This whole quote is crazy. "There aren't enough jobs in the county to justify building new housing" Okay, what are you doing as CE to bring in new jobs? This is not a good situation to be in!
