By plugging tens of billions of phone numbers into WhatsAppβs contact discovery tool, researchers found βthe most extensive exposure of phone numbersβ everβalong with profile photos and more.
A security flaw let researchers scrape data on 3.5 BILLION active WhatsApp accounts by bypassing rate limits and collecting public profile photos and "about" text, creating the largest phone number exposure ever recorded.
