Good day at the Foliage Ride in Groton. Three dozen folks came out Saturday for an easy going bike ride on the all improved gravel surface of the rail trail throughout Town of Groton and up into the State Forest.

There's a lot hanging on the word "varies". Montpelier to create a separated bike path along Barre St. Part of a larger project at intersection of Main St/Barre St. The Council is considering options at their meeting tonight. But it looks like things may be moving forward as soon as later this year.

Blue Mt Trucking posts progress in Groton on rail trail. Started at the Pine Mountain end and working their way west, like the pioneers. Remember "the sand pit" and "the big puddle"? Well memories is all you have for now!

Railbed upgrade begins in Groton. Big yellow machines are staged at the Gateway Park and ready to roll. Stay tuned for a much improved trail. Should be all done in the next few weeks! The Town of Groton has hired Blue Mt Excavating to put down gravel and grade out the railbed throughout town.

Met the photographer at Woodsville Railroad Days in 2013. He talked about memories of trains in NH/VT from 1930s on. I said I was working on saving sections of M&WR as a trail. He said he wished it was still a train. I said at least we can tell folks the history. He said "I don't know history."

Labeled as the Central Vermont train in Waterbury. Not dated, but steam trains so, 1940s? Does anyone still remember Station Lumber? That was fun building to wander through. Long and narrow and stacked to the ceiling with things you might need. Been sorting through old railroad photos lately.
