Not really here to make original posts, but like reading and learning from others. Wildlife, gardening, the Great War of particular interest and maybe have a chuckle now and again.

A black-and-white photograph showing a muddy street filled with soldiers in uniform gathered around damaged buildings. Many soldiers stand or walk along the road, some looking toward the storefronts while others face different directions. On the right side is a wooden building with a sign reading β€œR & R Stores,” with additional signage advertising confectionery, refreshments, tobacco, and coffee. The storefront appears damaged, with broken windows and debris scattered on the ground nearby. In the middle distance, piles of wooden boards and rubble lie in the street near a partially damaged structure. Utility poles, trees, and several small buildings line the street in the background.

On March 4 and 5, 1919, Canadian soldiers began to riot at Kinmel Park in North Wales after their voyage home was postponed due to a number of factors.
The riots led to five deaths and 25 court martials.
This is the story.

Just found some old photos from St. Petersburg taken some time between about 1998 and 2004. I was there a few times in this period and after and it’s sad how things have gone since. Beautiful city.

It's World Book Day.

Thank you to everyone who ever bought or read a book of mine, even if you hated it.

If you've never read a book of mine, but you've read A book, thank you too. A rising tide raises all ships. You're still enabling me 😁

The most important thing is: read more books!

πŸ“ΈOur pick is Paul Duke’s No Ruined Stone. Duke received the RSA Morton Award in 2016. This work references the housing scheme where he was born and lived until the age of 19.

Day 3: I delivered these excellent flyers about the pollution emitted by home wood burning to the Milton Road library in Cambridge. It can be surprising to learn how dangerous & harmful a fire burning in a gorgeous, ornate fireplace actually is!

Some of the superb late 19th century buildings in Dewsbury.

As I have written before Dewsbury like many former manufacturing towns in West Yorkshire, has struggled in the post-industrial era. Once a thriving centre of the textile trade, the town was hit hard by the decline of its industry. In recent decades its town centre has suffered from shop
