By eviscerating the Tory party in July 2024, did the British electorate commit an act of countryside? I know nothing about music, but I love the noise it makes.

A genuinely unsettling piece of television.

Compared to many other competent but anodyne broadcasters, Meades took no prisoners, presenting his theses in a witty and erudite fashion. The challenge was to keep up but it was vastly entertaining and rewarding when I could manage it.

A prosaic, nit-picking take on the question would be that by 1919, with the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, Bistritz had officially become BistriΘ›a, a historic rather than a contemporary locale.

I can't remember who it was but someone made the observation: thoughts and prayers for all those poor women who die tragically young to create the good looking widowers in TV Christmas movies

Reminds me of Alun Cochrane's account of how his mother invented fusion cuisine in the 1970s:
"Mam, why have we got Findus Crispy Pancakes, rhubarb yoghurt, coleslaw and diced swede for dinner?"
"Because the fridge is knackered son, now tuck in"

I wasn't aware of this; I'm so sorry to hear of grafitti and insults. The casual malice displayed by some thoughtless individuals with no concept of the hurt it can cause is truly shocking.

Not a king, but Charles Frederick of Baden enjoyed a 73 year reign, initially as a Margrave, then an Elector and finally a Grand Duke, as his state weathered the vicissitudes of the revolutionary era and the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire.

It's absolutely ok
All of us can (and should) empathise with others but we never know with 100% certainty how life's travails impact on other individuals. For me, the earlier an issue takes hold, the more deep seated it becomes, and the longer it takes to bring under control but it can be done. πŸ‘

It's funny because it's true. I once turned off a radio show because the announcer said it was about etymology. I confused it with entomology and as I was eating (and am highly squeamish) I didn't want to hear about bugs as I ate my lunch.

I don't know if he was aware of the etymology, but one of E.M. Forster's most explicitly queer short stories is entitled "The Torque".
