Would it be a good place? No. Neither would a Harris victory. Her main appeal to people of conscience was being a "lesser evil" (for some people). We are in a time where we have neither solidarity nor conscience as a movement. And the bulk of the blame lies on racism, not the anti-genocide minority.

If Harris had lost because of the pro-Palestine movement then we would be in a better position right now. Because that would mean we actually had a united and principled front against genocide no matter who does it. But the reason she lost was because of foaming mouth racists that hate Black women.

A potential failure to handle the aftermath of prison abolition is not an acceptable reason to never abolish prisons. What it's a reason for is GETTING INVOLVED IN THOSE NEW SOLUTIONS. We don't just get to walk away from Omelas, we have to be part of shaping a just future.

The project to dismantle the prison system is URGENTLY NECESSARY. It just is. It is NOT a justifiable option to declare that we're not sure the future is guaranteed without the death machine- and so keep using the death machine.

The thing with 'but what about the people who SHOULD be in prison?' in response to abolitionists is that it IS a good question! HOWEVER! It is NOT the end of the discussion. Its fundamental to how we approach actual liberation as a practical reality and not an unattainable dream.
