My only response is what took them so long!! I spend all week long every week on public health calls and it feels like we have been screaming into the void as our entire public health infrastructure has been dismantled. Why didn’t they show up during the confirmation hearings?

I also downloaded an Apple Watch app that is monitoring my stress levels. Not too surprising, any progress I am making is destroyed by the too many zoom meetings through my days. So also trying to sneak in 1/2 mi walks between meetings.

We have distributed close to $1M to FQHC in CA to help them increase their colorectal cancer screening rates and access to the care continuum for those needing after screening - want to guess where I think we should be spending our money?

Also pretty mission adverse when I can’t access the journals/articles relevant to our efforts, even if I routinely review for several of the journals. So, for me/us, this quickly becomes a dead end of why bother. #MedSky #GastroSky #PublicHealth

I get hit up constantly to write more but if we can’t afford to pay for open access then readership will be limited and becomes « what’s the point ». I do not need tenure or promotion, but what we are doing saves lives in CA. Hard to relay when so many barriers to publication exist.

For example, I am president of an all volunteer nonprofit that turns all our available funds back into health systems in CA - generally FQHC - and I have piles of data but publishing, and accessing the articles in support of those manuscripts, would quickly break our bank.

I know a lot will jump in about this being the only way to support societies but the true bottom feeder, besides your average reader, are the nonprofits working not to make a buck but to improve some facet of our society.
