On watching SF shows and realising they don't have (m)any mothers or babies... while you yourself are a new mother...

Lisa L Hannett's essay is brilliant. You can read it and 12 other essays in ebook for AUD10!

Courage, imagination, understanding: Creative Australia in 2025 Perhaps the existential risk Creative Australia faces is its own pusillanimous lack of faith.

Me in @meanjin.bsky.social on the debacle that is Creative Australia. β€œIf it can’t fight for all the meanings and freedoms of art, if it can’t defend what is precious in our cultural heritage and future, what is it for?” meanjin.com.au/essays/coura...

The Red Labyrinth by Ben Peek

The Red Labyrinth by Ben Peek

THE RED LABYRINTH’s low page count belies the breadth and depth of Ben Peek’s vision. The setting is richly imagined and the characters are vivid and complex. It’s an outstanding work of dark fantasy.

Thank you @kristimdemeester πŸ’œ

A gorgeous and unsettling entry into the horror genre. Slatter melds grief and folk horror with a master's touch. There's a tender brutality in her turns of phrase and a humanityΒ in her characters that will move even the hardest soul...

And Hugh Cook’s Chronicles of an Age of Darkness while they’re at it. Great books that have interesting conversations with Jack Vance’s Dying Earth books.

The cover of Frog, Log, and Dave Almost Save the Day. There is a frog a log and a Dave (That one is Brent’s idea and I loved it). Also Frog is lifting a box on one finger and there is lots of lightning.

I have a new book coming out. It’s a graphic novel about a Frog, A Log, and a Dave. They’re musicians who become delivery drivers after a freak storm destroys their instruments.
