Hotel booking has no map function. So needed to look each one up on separate browser. For women this is & H&S issue.
And no where on list of reasons of why we didn't choose cheapest flights/hotels was *our agenda* or SAFETY.
Yes I'm still cross.
The image shows some descriptive characteristics of the 1,862 respondents of the VEuPathDB user impact and sustainability survey. 90% were from academic institutions; 35% were principal investigators/ lab heads while 50% were students/postdocs; respondents were from 81 countries and 80% were frequent users (daily/weekly use) of VEuPathDB resources.
VEuPathDB conducted a survey at the end of 2024 to assess the importance of our resources and to explore potential funding strategies following funding changes. We got 1,862 responses! Huge thanks to everyone who took this survey! We will share the results and survey report this week.
04.03.2025 13:27 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0People often ask about this and worth reiterating: there are individual PI's labs that cost more than bioRxiv, which serves the whole world.
We are working towards a long-term, stable, distributed funding strategy. It's trival $$.
Reminder: Research $10^5 journal paper $10^3, preprint $10^1.
At #ECFG17, like at all major scientific conferences worldwide, the talks highlight how science thrives on global collaboration. Borders donโt define discovery - diversity and cooperation do. Meanwhile, U.S. policies seem to be moving in the opposite direction.

Now seems a good time to mention that I haven't yet filled a postdoc position in phylogenetic methods. If you just lost your job, need something temporary, and know something about bioinformatics/statistics/evolution, talk to me.

We will focus on identifying and characterizing chemical hazards to humans and ecosystems using computational biology methods.
I am beginning the search for two postdocs now - stay tuned for more details!

As a recent recipient of this funding, I can highly recommend it as a means of broadening experiences and networks to support current and future research.

I have no skin in the game, it's not my field. I just loved the story but found the paper disappointing. Stats hard to follow and muddled
I think there were lots of problems I didn't list.
In any case, rigorous peer review would be good, I think a strategy of attention seeking preprints and never actually publishing is less good...
