I was once in my 20s and thought FireFly was peak.
Then I got old and discovered cultural awareness, media literacy, and myself over two decades.
Oh, and then The Expanse, Dark, and Andor happened.
Looking forward to coming home to my reality TV wall room and the book burning events on the weekend.
The big media companies know this, so now the strategy is to target and reach us with emotional associations we made in the past when we had more time and space to think freely. That's what it feels like to me.
The stress of being an exploited worker destroys our attention span and energy levels, the illusion of choice, having no clarity or purpose around how we access entertainment and (scrolling vs hobbies vs art for example), we all have crazy decision fatigue and affects how we pick our shows.
Thinking about why we keep getting these reboots and nostalgia bait shoved in our faces, feels clear to me that American audiences are so exhausted and Execs so uninspired, that the only way they can secure buy-in is to release media that already feels extremely familiar.
In the most professional and articulate way possible: This place fucks.
