Same, same. And now we’re a whole family who bikes. Honestly life changing

Sure but also the infected blood scandal, the postmaster scandal, the cladding scandal, “let the bodies pile high”… it’s cool that accountability is happening somewhere but it shouldn’t make up for lack of accountability everywhere else

Voi bike handles on the pavement

Flashing red light means the battery is loose? There’s a lot of inherent knowledge assumed!

Conclusion- cheap,
made getting around super easy today, really wish our built environment was safer or that e-bikes could do 20 mph too. Didn’t enjoy getting seasick 🥺

Would ride again in a pinch

A voi bike handlebar at Picardy place with my black glove hand

Really punishes you going >25 kph, which I get but doesn’t feel safe in some environments (Dean Bridge) and makes a janky (nauseous) ride if you regularly ride faster (thanks Zwift)

The large frame is better on cobbles but a lot harder for me to break

The slow pick up is dangerous at intersections

Voi bike handles in front of the Kings Buildings sign at the University of Edinburgh campus, with my black gloved hand

Today I did a Voi bike day in Edinburgh #edtravcyc
My thoughts:

Very convenient when it turns out at 11 pm we don’t have a spare tube and I need to go NW to S to E on a Sunday

The smaller frame is easier to brake! But makes me v nauseous!

The intense speed limiter…

The Best Tactics for Tackling Speeders Drivers who exceed speed limits are the cause of about one-third of all crash deaths in the US. To slow them down and save lives, cities have several effective tools.

"The most important lesson about local speed mitigation tactics is that they save lives; researchers don’t doubt effectiveness. Even better, many residents are eager to see them implemented. The missing link: policymakers courageous enough to do the right thing." www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Books are being challenged in Scottish schools. Librarians fear a 'chilling effect' on freedom of speech Dozens of complaints about reading material in school libraries have been received, with campaigners warning that "book bans" could increase.

Worried about this MAGA style book censorship happening in our schools.

“some librarians told The Ferret they are “thinking twice” about putting potentially controversial books on display, concerned that they could face organised online campaigns and doxxing.”

And the lack of vaccine access for kids u12, and those u7 who’ve never been offered. Or cleaning the air! Like absolutely no policy review here at all - it’s as if it literally doesn’t exist for them. Would be interesting to see how often KS has even said “covid” since being PM

Reminder that "jaywalking" was literally made up by american car manufacturers to shift the blame for accidents from drivers to pedestrians. "Jay" was a slang term meaning "idiot" or "rube".

Massive purple lit letters outside Edinburgh Airport. It should read “EDINBURGH” but I have “hilariously” cropped out the first five letters so it says “URGH”

My kiddo took this photo as we biked by so it’s got motion blur. A photo of an Edinburg road with yellow paint and a crater sized pothole next to some steel road plates. There’s massive rocks in the hole, further cracking around it where large coach buses drive over it regularly to get to the bus depot. In the distance are tram tracks

Just to jump on the pothole discourse, this mighty one nearly swallowed my cargo bike tyre at Elder St/York - it’s right in the middle of the bike path. It’s gotten a lot bigger this week. Insert joke about AI fixing it, etc etc. But, can we just fix it, Edinburgh Council? 🥺

One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss Copenhagen, the bicycle-friendliest place on the planet, publishes a biannual Bicycle Account, and buried in its pages is a rather astonishing fact.

“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

Some costs aren’t costs.

The New World asked me to speak to some British trans women about what life has been like for them over the past few years - here's what they had to say, in their own words: www.thenewworld.co.uk/marie-le-con...

I read last month “Troublesome Young Men” which was about the 30 (!!)
anti-appeasement MPs in Britain in the 1930s. And in total agreement with you - the parallels are super uncomfortable, lessons haven’t been learnt, and a lot of history forgotten, or re-written?

Number of UK newspaper editorials arguing for more (blue) and less (red) climate action, 2011-2025. Some editorials also present a “balanced” view, which is categorised as advocating for neither “more” nor “less” climate action. These editorials are not represented in this chart.
