Also, having that Chinashi & Moaang 'combi' episode so early in first season was a disservice to everything that followed. Couldn't stop thinking about seeing more episodes like it as the series progressed, but alas.
Better to have never had something, then to have something and then "lose" it. :-D
Perhaps mostly a fan of Isao Tahakata, isn't it? Given that adapting The Tale of the Heike was also one of Mr. Takahata's pending wishes, maybe Ms. Yamada is following on his steps and respectfully honoring him too with this, now working as well on a re-imagining of such a WMT staple.
Weren't there also some problems with the changes to the setting they had planned? Seems Mr. Mizukami wasn't too happy about it: xcancel.com/nekogaeru/st...
Hoping that the start was several years ago then, because Aninari needs all the time in the world! :-D
I still think from time to time about those legends about him posted in the old /anime/ thread... was he really fired from AD duties at Steamboy because of being too slow?
P.D.: How did I forget to highlight my beloved Megumi Kōno earlier? 🤦
Yeah! In the particular case of P&SwG, that sitcom-like "bottle episode" by Shōko Nishigaki remains a good example of that slightly different approach; endearing, natural, with pleasing casualness in sisters' interactions. Kinda stole the spotlight from a fantastic Otonari segment... bring on S2! 🤤
And talking of c.a.s., that's one of the circles I have all self-published works of, but I have to get into scanning again because I only shared one: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
"Fratbrat" energy and all, but GAiNAX was also home for some of the best woman animators in business; with the aforementioned, plus Hitomi Hasegawa, Yuka Shibata —gen highlight by Imaishi & Hiramatsu; (www.style.fm/log/01_talk/...), Ayumi Shiraishi (of GEKIDAN INU CURRY fame), up to Moeka Kuga, etc.
... and in more personal ones (Sister Princess Re Pure GAiNAX eps., The sense of Wonder, Namida no Mokō). They were supposed to work with teacher Tadashi Hiramatsu on the long-promised Ghost Rhapsody adaptation, but unfortunately it actually never happened. 😔
Oh, how much I miss her 'combi' with Akemi Hayashi since Dōkyūsei! Now that's another fashionista —main illust. for RADIO EVA after all— who influenced late GAiNAX's sensibilities along Nakamura, leaving both a clear imprint even on collab side projects (S・t・a・r・S MV)...
If I knew you were reading that page the moment I posted a comment, I would have waited until you finished to not prolong your suffering! :-P
On the other hand, I like the implication of recent moves by Toho Co., Ltd. being a motivator for Sony Group to act, and how further investments by the former are expected for them to actually try to better compete in that (hypothetical) future: toyokeizai.net/articles/-/8...
Of course, the bribery scandal just made the M&A opportunity ideal now from the perspective of several Sony Group companies' interests, SME(J) and Aniplex Inc. included! Excessive focus on the gaming side is misguided, mind you, but it is a business of undeniable importance.
The specific purchase from a Sony division like SIE of FromSoftware shares on its own in 2022, months after the KADOKAWA × CyberAgent, Inc. × Sony Group capital alliance (ssl4.eir-parts.net/doc/9468/tdn...), shows there's a particular interest within the corporation for that side of their business.
Well, FromSoftware, Inc. is a company that in a recent quarter has "accounted for only around 12% of [KADOKAWA's] sales" while contributing "almost a third of the overall operating profit": www.gamesindustry.biz/does-a-sony-...
They sure pose margins and a RoI enviable by any C-suite on the block!
>Specifically, creators you've come to expect from Khara [...] plus ofc their older guard.
Which makes you think; is Masayuki more involved and busy with Mr. Higuchi's next film, or will he appear randomly directing/SB-ing some episode? 🤔

Here you have a better quality upload, done by director Mr. Hosogane himself: vimeo.com/39758142
Titled Yuriy Norshteyn: Making "The Overcoat", the documentary itself features some of those clips from what has been completed (for decades already, in some cases): www.kanopy.com/en/product/m...
For that I'd need him to put out The Overcoat at long last! There's been presentations of some fragments at various events, but Mr. Norshteyn definitely doesn't want to release it "unfinished", incomplete: youtu.be/MqN2qzfyov0?...
