Time are rough as an ESI, well as anyone. Last year I had stellar reviewed NSF CAREER not funded due to cuts, now I finally have a fundable R01 score and *looks around* we can't have animal only grants? 🫠

I need scientists 🧪 to *THINK*: Do you really believe *only* $8mil went to research w/ transgenic mice, one of the most common tools in modern biomedicine?

Or maybe fascists are targeting trans people everywhere they can, including research using animal models of gender affirming hormone therapy?

thank you! I've been feeling the same way seeing jokes about this.. if only it were something stupid and laughable vs. extremely calculated and nefarious

I lost my job at the National Science Foundation yesterday, along with 167 of my colleagues, including some dear friends. This was the best job I've ever had, and I thought it would be my last. The PI community has been sympathetic and supportive, without exception. I will miss working for you.

A Statement from the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology on Current Events | Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (SBN) The Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology (SBN) is an interdisciplinary scientific organization dedicated to the study of hormonal processes and neuroendocrine systems that regulate behavior.

@sbn-bsky.bsky.social has released a statement on current events. SBN DEI comm, of which I'm chair, wrote this statement to be people-first focused on the human impacts. I want to thank Peg McCarthy & the Exec Comm in quickly approving the document w/ few edits. This is why SBN is my "home" society.

Just saw this news. Ed Stricker is a big reason I'm a neuroscientist today. I will always be grateful for the journey he took his students on in Intro to Neuro at Pitt. www.ssib.org/web/memorial...

if they're bragging about cost savings, they are likely cutting the savings from indirects from the total budget

Opinion | I’m a health researcher. NIH’s pause on research grants could have a devastating cost. This is a potentially devastating event — not just for the scientific community, but for all Americans.
