Many of the people who subscribe to the views of these lore theorists have the same mindset as followers of prophets, and even though this is just about video games, I see very much the same characteristics as religious groups in how members will behave about it.

From their perspective, crafting a more obscure narrative is more valuable because they can create cult followings using esoteric justifications. It's no coincidence that so many of these lore people make youtube channels. They want social status, and engaging with the art is secondary.

I agree. It's fun to hunt for lore discoveries, and I've done lots of it too, but it's important to use the overarching themes as a contextual lens for the finer details to slot into, and - to avoid confirmation bias - seek things that disprove hypotheses moreso than things which add weight to them.
