Stormblood and Dawntrail are both last because the writers do the exact same thing in both expansions which is write from their internalised Japanese imperialism for a majority of the narrative and it’s tiring tbh
1. Shadowbringers
2. Endwalker
3. Heavensward (very nearly tied for 2nd)
4. ARR
Significantly behind ARR: Stormblood & Dawntrail
rock time :)

22.11.2025 00:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Spoilers) Elphaba and Galinda not being together in the end and Elphaba going off with Fiyero and that being extremely unsatisfying is THE POINT. the obvious answer is that Elphaba and Galinda should have been together, they deeply love each other, the entire two movies centres their relationship through its trials and tribulations, but because of Galinda’s own inability to let go of her complacent white womanhood and how she continually makes excuses for and even actively works for a regime of power rather than support a Black woman fighting that regime of power, allowing and even assisting in her public demonisation, they COULDN’T be. And at every chance she gets to make the right decision and change her course, she gets right up to the edge of making real change and chickens out at the end, because she cannot let go of the privilege her white womanhood afford her, and the privilege that heteronormativity affords her. The characters’ internalised
cisheteronormativity and how dissatisfying that is for everyone is THE POINT, coupled with the nonromantic narrative of violent governmental oppression and how societal norms turn people who would normally care about each other violently against each other. This movie queers the watcher. You are MEANT to hate how they ended up, because you intrinsically want them to be happy, but people unable to look inward at their homophobic biases will instead resolve this tension by lazily calling it a bad movie instead of critiquing the norm they have accepted, which this media loudly critiques. They are not “besties,” they literally tell each other they love each other and tearfully sing to each other over the course of two movies. The entire thing is their love story. Fiyero was not central to their story, you could argue he was nothing more than the man that largely got in the way due to heteronormativity who Elphaba eventually settled for because she didn’t have another choice. That happens all the time to queer people in real life! That’s supposed to make you uncomfortable!
tidbit of my thoughts and queer critique of Wicked parts one and two. (there’s way more than just this to consider over the course of these two movies but I wanted to keep it pretty short for right now)

none of these critics know anything about the Queer New Wave or how the Wizard of Oz is integral to queer culture & how that subculture that formed around TWoO in the 1900s is what led to Wicked being written, performed on stage, & now made into movies that brilliantly centre queer narrative

THAT WAS THE POINT!!!!!!!!!! IT NOT BEING SATISFYING IS INTEGRAL TO THE POINT!!!!
