A wooden walkway next to a creek full of water. Trees are on either side of the water. A green lawn with gum trees at the edges and a silver sculpture is in the foreground. A concrete path runs through a corridor of trees. It has a mirrored roof that runs above the pathway reflecting the path and the surrounding trees. A pathway with low and tall trees on either side.

I was lucky enough to walk through some of the #JamesCookUniversity campus in Townsville, Queensland today. Many if the trees were planted by Eddie Mabo when he was a groundsman there. He did a beautiful job.

Mitigating harm in prisons: the provision of books, libraries and reading

Back in October I presented at a conference about the role of books, libraries and reading in mitigating the harm caused by prisons. I have now recorded part of that presentation and you can watch it here (12:40 minutes): youtu.be/wyrAJf_IJso?... #prisonlibraries #prisonreform #prisoneducation

Who Gets to Be Smart: Privilege, Power and Knowledge Bri Lee, best-selling and award-winning author of Eggshell Skull, asks Who gets to be smart? in this forensic and hard-hitting exploration of knowledge, power and privilege.

I have just started reading 'Tools for Conviviality' the other day. It is making me think about his topics differently. I am interested to see you incorporating his ideas into your teaching. Next I am going to go back to this one to look for links between them: www.readings.com.au/product/9781...

How’s this for an opening sentence to a book: “During the next several years I intend to work on an epilogue to the Industrial Age“. Does anyone know this book? #academicreading

There is an established practice of using graphic novels to GROW literacy. A Google Scholar search will provide a list of supporting research. This book could help improve the media specialist's understanding: Novak, R.J. (2021) Teaching Graphic Novels in the Classroom. #schoollibrarians

This afternoon I am working on a presentation describing a research project I am leading that will explore the relationship between custodial staff education levels and the attitudes of these staff toward prisoner education. Ask me if you want to know more! #academicwriting

@thesiswhisperer.bsky.social Three things on your to do list? I’m curious. The three most urgent, three quickest to complete, three that have been on the list for longest? Something else? How do you choose? #onthereg

This is great. I love the way you are modeling what you want your students to do, and the way you have used technology to capture the exercise. Brilliant poem choice.
