the thing is, they've turned everything immigration-related to stephen miller, who has never run for office, has never held an elected position, and who could not win a popularity contest consisting solely of members of his own household. he is indifferent to the future of the republican party.

Honestly the more I think about this the more it makes sense.

God's curse to Cain: "The ground will not yield its crops to you. You will be a wanderer."

The Rekabite tribe: "We must never sow seed or plant vineyards. We must never live in houses, only tents."

And that has me thinking about the relationship sedentary people have to nomadic peoples in the modern world. The Romani, the Irish Travellers, etc.

(Others have noticed the same. Some even float the idea that the Cain and Abel story could be a mythologized account of the split between nomadic herdsmen like the Kenites and sedentary farmers like the Israelites, to explain why they are Not Like Us and yet Are Not To Be Harmed.)

I just find it interesting that two of the descriptions associated with the Kenites (or Cain-ites), "nomadic shepherds" and "metalsmiths," are here associated with two of the descendants of Cain, Jabal and Tubal-Cain.

17 Cain made love to his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Cain was then building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch. 18 To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech.

19 Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play stringed instruments and pipes. 22 Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of[g] bronze and iron. Tubal-Cain’s sister was Naamah.

Moses's father-in-law, despite being priest *of* Midian, might actually have been one of these "Kenite" nomads. Jael too, or at least her husband, is a "Kenite."

Some later settled in cities, some did not.

The name comes from the same root as "Cain." It might just mean "smith."

Except...

Jeremiah 35 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord during the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: 2 β€œGo to the Rekabite family and invite them to come to one of the side rooms of the house of the Lord and give them wine to drink.”

3 So I went to get Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers and all his sonsβ€”the whole family of the Rekabites. 4 I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the room of the sons of Hanan son of Igdaliah the man of God. It was next to the room of the officials, which was over that of Maaseiah son of Shallum the doorkeeper. 5 Then I set bowls full of wine and some cups before the Rekabites and said to them, β€œDrink some wine.”

6 But they replied, β€œWe do not drink wine, because our forefather Jehonadab[a] son of Rekab gave us this command: β€˜Neither you nor your descendants must ever drink wine. 7 Also you must never build houses, sow seed or plant vineyards; you must never have any of these things, but must always live in tents. Then you will live a long time in the land where you are nomads.’ 8 We have obeyed everything our forefather Jehonadab son of Rekab commanded us. Neither we nor our wives nor our sons and daughters have ever drunk wine 9 or built houses to live in or had vineyards, fields or crops. 10 We have lived in tents and have fully obeyed everything our forefather Jehonadab commanded us. 11 But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded this land, we said, β€˜Come, we must go to Jerusalem to escape the Babylonian[b] and Aramean armies.’ So we have remained in Jerusalem.”

As the OT depicts Israel conquering and settling Canaan, moving from a nomadic lifestyle to a sedentary and even urbanized lifestyle, there's a group or two who doesn't, who maintains the "old ways" as Bedouin-like nomadic herdsmen, like Abraham had.

I find this fascinating.

The bigger point is that Christ has already been born. He will not return the second time how he came the first. So behind the so nonsense there is the fundamental incarnational heresy.

I said months ago, when Johnson became Speaker, that this would happen & that all those GOP women would FO.

Johnson is a lifelong Southern Baptist & was part of SBC leadership. They believe women are untrustworthy because Eve was deceived by the serpent in Eden.

Yeah, really.

Every grandparent and aunt wants me to bring my kids over to set up their tree and decorate their house. And that’s sweet and wonderful.

…But I have not had energy to get our own decorations down from the attic. My house is undecorated. Our first Sunday of Advent passed without candles.
