Dr. Porter has done extensive work documenting the elevated levels of cancer in Bayview through the Hunters Point Biomonitoring Foundation.

As Congressman, I commit to fighting for a full cleanup, real oversight, and the justice this community has been denied for far too long.

In 2009, the Navy found evidence of dangerous levels of chemical and radioactive waste in Hunters Point and hired a contractor to survey and remediate the site. But that contractor falsified data, and the Navy has never fully retested the site.

The federal government has failed our Bayview-Hunters Point neighbors. I recently met up with Dr. Ahimsa Sumchai Porter and a group of neighbors to discuss the toxic waste in Hunters Point that has been making Bayview neighbors sick for years.

When the reporter told me about the error in the property deed filing, I corrected it right away. I digged into whether I got any financial benefit, and it seems like I did not.

And another way you can tell that I wasn’t trying to get any sort of tax benefit is I never applied for any tax exemption (which is publicly recorded on the Maryland property records).

We never applied for a mortgage claiming this house was a principal residence. The mortgage claimed the house as a "second home" -- probably because we noticed the mistake in the initial docs and fixed it.

When I got the closing docs in front of me, I signed what was there. The specific thing I signed here even has the language “property herein is intended to be used as my/OUR principal residence.” I’m not a real estate lawyer so I assumed they prepped the docs right and that our included my parents.

In 2018, I bought my parents a home. It was honestly the least I could do after everything they sacrificed to give me the life I've had. Everyone involved — the escrow agents, the realtors, etc., fully knew this was going to be my parents’ primary residence — they all met my parents multiple times!

Medicare-for-all isn’t just feasible, it’s necessary. With 27 million uninsured Americans and premiums that climb every year, our system doesn’t need incremental reform. It needs a full transformation.

This is the way to do it. The Dem AND Republican establishments didn’t want him to pursue this. But he fought and forced their hand to create a new anti-establishment bipartisan coalition.

We need more people with this kind of strategic thinking.

If we want Medicare-for-all, affordable housing, universal childcare, taxes on the rich, we need a team going to Congress who will organize together to make that happen. We do not have the luxury of playing it safe.

This race is about more than one district in New York. It’s about whether we are serious about building an economy and society for all, not just a lucky few.

But more importantly, @chiosse.bsky.social must win. We cannot build an economy for everyone without building a Democratic Party that clearly stands for working people. Hakeem Jeffries will never allow that.

@chiosse.bsky.social can win. In New York, it’s about turnout. And the more high profile a race you run, the more energy you get, the more people you get, and you win.

This is the kind of bipartisanship I can get behind.

UCSF says it wants to be the best hospital in the country. If they're serious about doing that, they'll need to support the workers who make that possible.
