This is great, but how do I save money when SDGE charges me $20 for electricity generation and $60 for delivery? Even with $0 usage I would be looking at a $30 electric bill just for delivery to my building

Congress must reassert its Constitutional power to declare war and reign in this Administration.

We must use every tool to hold this President accountable and to defend the principle that in the U.S., we do not let one man choose war.

Can you elaborate? Only seeing one specific callout regarding battery storage that would cost money. Or are there other policies not in this article that’s she has proposed that would raise costs?

Don’t think you’re being reductive at all. Some people should not have a platform to espouse dangerous, garbage nonsense that only exists so they can make a buck.

Honestly think the problem is we’re talking to each other way too much. Constantly having to engage and hear random opinions is making us insane.

ICE pepper sprayed 1 year old gil

ICE pepper sprayed 1 year old gil

ICE pepper-sprayed this 1-year-old girl.

Once at the hospital, the doctor had to call in a poison control specialist.

They had never seen anyone that young pepper sprayed.

Another horrific story.

More details below.

It's not even "shoved people out and replaced them with automation", it's "shoved people out and used automation as an excuse for downsizing". These companies want to layoff workers without lowering their stock price by framing it as being on the bleeding edge of technology.

DeepMind AI Reduces Google Data Centre Cooling Bill by 40% Reducing energy usage has been a major focus for us over the past 10 years: we have built our own super-efficient servers at Google, invented more efficient ways to cool our data centres and invested…

I’m assuming through machine learning. Google Deepmind did this in 2016, but that ended up being a 15% savings once other factors were included. Not sure how you get to 6-7x

LLM's and SQL are really cool. Also straight up translation of data has always been its strong suit. If companies just stopped pushing generative image/video slop, I don't think there would be such a visceral reaction to the technology.

I Want You to Understand Chicago
Politics Chicago
2025-11-08

I want you to understand what it is like to live in Chicago during this time.

Every day my phone buzzes. It is a neighborhood group: four people were kidnapped at the corner drugstore. A friend a mile away sends a Slack message: she was at the scene when masked men assaulted and abducted two people on the street. A plumber working on my pipes is distraught, and I find out that two of his employees were kidnapped that morning. A week later it happens again.

An email arrives. Agents with guns have chased a teacher into the school where she works. They did not have a warrant. They dragged her away, ignoring her and her colleagues’ pleas to show proof of her documentation. That evening I stand a few feet from the parents of Rayito de Sol and listen to them describe, with anguish, how good Ms. Diana was to their children. What it is like to have strangers with guns traumatize your kids. For a teacher to hide a three-year-old child for fear they might be killed. How their relatives will no longer leave the house. I hear the pain and fury in their voices, and I wonder who will be next.

Understand what it is to pray in Chicago. On September 19th, Reverend David Black, lead pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, was praying outside the ICE detention center in Broadview when a DHS agent shot him in the head with pepper balls. Pepper balls are never supposed to be fired at the head because they can seriously injure, or even kill. β€œWe could hear them laughing as they were shooting us from the roof,” Black recalled. He is not the only member of the clergy ICE has assaulted. Methodist pastor Hannah Kardon was violently arrested on October 17th, and Baptist pastor Michael Woolf was shot with pepper balls on November 1st.

Understand what it is to sleep in Chicago. On the night of September 30th, federal agents rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter to execute a raid on an apartment building on the South Sho…

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Also at what point did I say this was something people should purchase? It’s $400 by the way, maybe if you read the article you’d know that.

Making a knife that can do 40000 vibrations per second without hearing it isn’t tech nerdiness? the fuck are you talking about?

24.09.2025 23:10 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

JFC we’re arguing about a product that neither of us have even used in the real world. All I’m saying is don’t shit on ideas with lazy β€œtech guy makes thing”. This isn’t ads on your fridge, it’s actually an attempt to solve a real problem in a novel way.

Could (and might and maybe should) fail.

24.09.2025 19:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That opinion ignores several points made in the video:

- guy is interested in taking industrial innovations and making them available to consumers
- has down a large comparison on other knives and his own with vibration on and off
- talks about knife safety and how this tries to alleviate that

THEN DONT BUY IT! By the way, I’m not buying it either, I have a decent chefs knife I love and keep sharp.

The original post was a lazy pile on about the tech industry, and they deserved the call outs they got in the replies

Everyone on this thread: please read the article and watch the video. This is the kind of tech nerdiness that we should prompre.

Also hate the insinuation that we can’t have cool things because it isn’t accessible. This isn’t a public building, it’s a consumer product. choose something else then.
