Some Well Off practice observations:
-Sweetwyne and Wilson can ball
-Hughley and Gooden are massive
-RBs are built this year
-OL are built this year
-LBs have legit instincts
-The dst scheme looks aggressive
-Don’t love Mathis getting this many targets
-DT Smith looks pretty slow
-Tempo is faaaast
At 17-13 (and likely 17-14 until the Big 12 tourney let’s be real) we’re looking at a legit foundational core to build on.
Lovo seems to be a true hoops fan so I wouldn’t count out this core coming back and adding key pieces and making a tourney run.
UH goes for 60% FG and out rebounds by 12.
Buffs do not have enough size in the paint. The only true bigs on the team are Malone, Van Elswyk, Ifaola, and Michaeli.
Not saying these are the right bigs, but Tad needs to sacrifice some O and play 2 bigs simultaneously on D in these games.
16-12 with 12 underclassmen is really good and there are four more games the Buffs could have won (CSU, UNCO, TTU and BYU). Tad deserves props for finding a way, again.
And I really hope I don’t regret this post by Sat afternoon.
Teams can throw up any bullshit they want from 3 and it goes in.
Comparing Well Off practice videos from today to one year ago, you see a difference. 2026 Buffs are having a lot more fun, more together.
Saw a lot of going through the motions last year. Just not into it. Physically, they were big but not in shape like they are this year.
Watching Josiah Sanders throw his chest into ball handlers on the perimeter just because is the most dawg thing you can do as a defensive player. Also went for 12-3-6 with 1 TO.
Tacko 🌮 📈
Imagine if this team didn’t have Alon Michaeli
This is actually good news. It shows CU (Saliman, Schwartz, regents) see the value of FB on brand, applications.
I was a “Sebastian Rancik at all costs” guy but let’s be honest he’s been the worst player on the court more often than not this year. Idk what happened.
Idk how I feel about a dude bouncing before playing in the natty. Pretty sure I don’t like it
Lolololol what the
Correction, Soto has only played RG so 2nd team could be:
RT: Richardson
RG: Soto
C: Kinney
LG: Gooden
LT: Bell
Definitely, talent across the board. I’m more excited about this group vs last years. A run block identity is something CU hasn’t been able to develop in a while (Lindsey?) and one we haven’t defended well so it’ll be cool to have that on our side.
If I had to guess the initial plan:
1st string
RT - Johnson
RG - Attia
C - Hunter
LG - White
LT - Hughley
2nd string
RT: Richardson
RG: Gooden
C: Soto
LG: Kinney
LT: Bell
Leon Bell commits as I post that, so OL is likely done. 15 linemen. 1st, 2nd string all have extensive experience.
Portal: closed. I count 74 scholarship players. Here’s what CU needs:
1 CB (8 on roster)
2 S (5 on roster)
1 LB (7 on roster)
2 DT (6 on roster)
1 OL (14 on roster)
1 RB (4 on roster)
Brings it up to 82.
I’m not going to paint a rosy picture but this is kind of an exaggeration and shows how the B12 doesn’t know about the SoCal to Boulder pipe.
Good riddance, he quit on the team and JuJu with his fake boot injury last year.
All of these Buffs minus H. Williams and Salter entered the portal. Still 2.5 days left. The last day players can enter is Jan 16 but they don’t have to sign by that date, it can be after it closes.
Report from UF that Seaton is asking for $2.5M. I had the Buffs paying $2M in 2026, the highest on the team along with JuJu.
2x more than the next highest L. Johnson, Attia, and now Hughley at $1M.
As I was saying. This guy said if you’re a dawg come to Colorado. Then bolts after one bad year. Pathetic.
Considering ~0.01% of NIL deals involve legitimate corporations acquiring the rights to a players name, image and likeness we can conclude the CSC is useless.
The thing I like most about the OT Bo Hughley portal signing, dude is a dawg. Kirby specifically called him out for showing heart at UGA. That is not a JAG (just a guy) signing.
Sweetwyne sounds like a pretty good jam band name.
Half way thought the portal, Jo Williams and JuJu have been active on social media recruiting and pumping up the base. Leaders. Love seeing it.
JSeat? Nothing. Crickets. So lame. What a disappointment.
Portal closes in one week and the Buffs need (in order of priority):
-S
-IOL
-DT
And another LB. Based on my own payroll estimate of ~$22m they can add another 8-10 fair value players ($200k) and stay within that range.
Good write up. Prime and CU deserve props for acing their portal homework. I do wonder why other programs didn’t try to use this exact portal playbook, or they did, but Prime and the pull of the Buffs brand is stronger and won out in a lot of H2H recruiting battles.
What a win by the Buffs! Props to Tad bc I would have been ejected for losing my shit. Investigate those refs, that was absolutely ridiculous.
