With summer vacations 🌞 🌊 🏔️ 🌈 knocking on our doors, what better way to celebrate than an interactive session led by Sai Sanjay, a Carnatic vocalist and a master’s student in the departments of Physics and Mathematical Sciences, on the Melakarta system of raga classification in the Carnatic canon?

Mahalanabis will be joined by Kishan Patel on the pakhavaj and Rishi Bhattacharyya on the esraj.

In this demonstration, Mahalanabis will delve into the structure and form of Dhrupad and Dhamār as it is performed today, and suggest a rationale for the structure the genre takes today.
