(Though, I am glad that I have gone down this path to begin with, even if I did not know how much I would learn about myself from it - create, and do it messily. You'll find yourself along the way.)

If I'm going to be making stories about messy people that have suffered, I need to do it from a place where I Know Myself, I know the message, & I can do it confidently & with the assurance I'm doing the absolute best I can to tell those stories. I believe that is my responsibility as a storyteller.

...but then I run into experiences that make me realize I still need to work on unmasking myself. I need to get to know my emotions better, my wants/needs, and I need to do it away from people - since I tend to get so lost in the patterns I follow that I ignore other red flags.

If you don't mind me pulling my mask back a bit - I really struggle to identify my emotions as they come up, and I think it leads to me being cranky, self-hating, and highly critical (which comes from the self-hatred, it's a nasty projection). I like to think I've gotten better at catching it...

I'm going to be on a hiatus for a while. I'm still working on Princeling, & still plan to upload again this year, so I'll be back in a month or so.
Right now, though, I need to pull away from online spaces to reflect on my behavior & attitude to art, to myself, & to other people.

It's already happening in Texas - they get like fifteen to twenty dudes to roll up and jump a fence to abduct people. They purposefully set it up so that you don't have time to go grab your weapon, and they have a whole gang that outnumbers you.

In a lot of ways, I'm really lucky. I work from home. I write and draw books. I still experience a lot of the same normal creative issues. I'm burned out. My current project frustrates me. But a few things in my routine have changed. Me: Hey, mom. Are the cousins okay? How's grandma? And your sisters? Me: Oh, good. Yeah. Okay, that's good. I'll call you later. Watching Bob's Burgers on repeat while I work.

My friends check in from time to time. Text: I got rubber-bulleted by ICE just on my way back from work. Ouch. Text: Hey I'm gonna observe tomorrow at the protest. I'll text every hour, and if you don't hear from me, please call [number] and give them my identifying information. I'd probably be at the Whipple. Okay? Text: They knocked on my door, but I'm okay. I demanded a signed judicial warrant, and they couldn’t provide one, so they left. I’m worried all the time.

And it makes me feel utterly untethered from reality when I have to live like this and just get back to work and draw my stupid little cartoons. Nothing else feels real or important right now. Trying to get into the groove of comic page work again, but honestly 2026 started off by being so emotionally exhausting that it's affecting me creatively.

Art Wizard Robes, Yes Please.

In other news, I got a wizard looking bathrobe for Christmas, and it's my new favorite thing. I'm contemplating giving into the whimsy, and cosplaying as a wizard for the heck of it.

The feminine urge to grow a long grey beard and wear wizard robes while I contemplate the meaning of life in the tallest part of my tower that rests on a cliff overlooking the ocean...

Posting this because I haven't seen much discussion about it and I feel like that is a pretty important thing to be aware of.

Heads up - USPS has changed the way postmark works. It's not based on the date you drop of your mail, it's based on when it gets processed by an auto sorting system.

Highly recommend reading into it if you rely on USPS for ballots, tax returns, rent, etc.
