Today, the Government stepped back from the most damaging recommendations that threatened to gut the laws protecting our most precious places for nature.
With wildlife already in crisis, anything else would have been reckless.
But avoiding the worst is not enough. Nature needs ambitious action.
We're saying hello to Sand Martins, our next #SpringArrivalSpotlight!
Gracing our skies from early March, they nest in colonies in sandy banks & cliff-sides.
Did you know? Their burrows can be up to a metre long!
Spot their distinctive swirling flight & short, forked tail.

It’s no surprise to us that the UK public chose wildlife as the theme for the next series of banknotes! 😍
After all… who wouldn’t want to carry a Puffin around in their pocket?!
Tell us which of our iconic species you’d be most excited to see on a tenner...
OIL is currently trading over a third higher than before the conflict began, pushed up by air strikes on shipping and energy infrastructure and the effective closure of the key Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway that carries a fifth of global oil supplies. This war is far from over.
Spring is here
Ref RSPB - the RSPB & Royalty - I think the Society should cut the connection. But the 'SPB' name would confuse many people. Best to have a complete change: "The Conservation of Nature & Biodiversity Trust" (C.N.B.T)..... more in line with the wildlife trusts.

Your comments about RSPB & Royalty - I totally agree. Cut the connection. But the 'SPB' name would confuse many people. Best to have a complete change: "The Conservation of Nature & Biodiversity Trust" (C.N.B.T)..... more in line with the wildlife trusts. And more scientific. But keep Avocet logo.

The theme for today's #BirdOfTheDay is #StandingInWater.
Gone for a bit of an arty one today. Two waders which I think are probably redshanks; bills a bit short for godwits.

Conservative shadow home secretary Chris Philp said the payments were "an insult to the British taxpayer".
Reform UK has also said, via the party's home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf, £40,000 payments were "staggering" and "a prize for breaking in illegally".
Families of failed asylum seekers will be offered up to £40,000 to leave the UK under a trial scheme announced by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. LABOUR GOVT has lost its marbles🙃🤪
However, the Conservatives and Reform UK said the payments would incentivise people to come to the UK illegally.
At age 14 I visited Leighton moss with my parents. I was captivated, and thereafter I started a lifetime interest in birds and wildlife. I'm now 73.
For today's Alt #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Finches, here are a male and a female chaffinch on a feeder at RSPB Leighton Moss the other day.

Some have questioned why the UK did not send a ship to the region sooner, given the build up of US military in the region and President Donald Trump's public threats to attack Iran. The Royal Navy has no major warship in the Mediterranean region - the MOD has been caught out 'asleep at the wheel.'
