Ahhhh, that tracks. Yeah, I'm MKE-based, but got out of town for that whole mess of a week. We try to rep the Hiawatha for Chicago trips 1) to avoid ORD and 2) because it's the only midwest train route with any reliability. And with a station actually close to an airport here!

Not sure if it's much better, but MKE might be a cheaper flight with Delta, then taking the Hiawatha to Union
