We've reached 1.5Β°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7Β°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world. 🌊

This is a marketing spin. It’s debatable whether natural gas (with it’s associated methane emissions) is cleaner than coal, but it isn’t clean let alone green. Please try not to perpetuate buzzwords, there are plenty of scientists who can speak about NG and it’s role in climate change.

How does this compare with business taxes? I believe part of why Vancouver residential taxes are so low relative to others is our business taxes are the inverse.

Yep mine has changed my life. 98% of the time I am not walking I’m on my bike. 3500km in about 2 years including just about all commutes to work (east Van to lower Lonsdale, about 12km). The e-bike part has been critical. No way would I be so motivated/passionate without assist.

I have no idea! I saw some posts on Reddit but no one seems to know who handles it.

The second narrows had been cleared of leaves and debris as of yesterday too, nice in the lead up to more slippery conditions to have better visibility of the ground.

Vancouver council stays course on natural gas ban in new homes ABC Vancouver Coun. Rebecca Bligh switches earlier vote, which now keeps policy from 2022 in place

I’m pleased to have been one of the (many) speakers who moved the needle on this. Thank you to Coun. Bligh for listening.

The only reason anyone considers NG to be cheaper than electricity is that we have externalized the ecological, medical, social and other costs of fossil energy. It needs to go

β€œIt’s not surprising that the two decisive measures these negotiations should have delivered at the outset – agreements to leave fossil fuels in the ground and to end most livestock farming – have never featured in the final outcome of any Cop summit.”

On one hand it is easier to imagine these figures being far worse in NA (destinations are further flung). On the other, parking is far much more abundant here.

As the public health crisis around plastics is becoming more clear AND plastics recycling chains are proving ineffectual, this is truly disappointing. Big corporations need to do their part instead of siphoning profits.

I got very lost in the work of Firelei BΓ‘ez recently at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The historical stories she tells through the medium of art are humbling and considered- challenging historical assumptions about our colonial past in the Americas. I can’t recommend the show enough.
