Rufus has moments of excitement too and inevitably runs into a wall or falls down stairs because he's deaf and can't see very well anymore. It's been a long journey from the wild wee rescue we got at 8 months old.
They can't tell time but they recognise patterns expertly. One they do well is noticing your scent diminishing after you've left an being able to notice that it has diminished to a level that you are due to return with the treat you always bring. I have a 16yo, he dislikes any disruption to routine.
I'm not exactly sure that I'm ready, but I'm doing it.
