We had big discussions over the pronunciation of Aedith. Tbh if I ever met her I would probably call her Captain Mercia anyway. She’s got a seax and she knows how to use it.
If you don't reading books with your eyes, read this with your ears instead, it's very good. Then James might hurry up and publish the second one.
Also, I just realised I was pronouncing Aedith wrong this whole time when reading it, instead calling her Edith.
Did you know that PAGANS by @jamesbluecat.bsky.social is also available in audiobook? Narrated by the brilliant actor Gunnar Cauthery (Dear England, The Tudors, War Horse), it's available on Audible, Apple Books, @kobobooks.bsky.social, @libro.fm and more. Here's a taster of what to expect...
Very true, and I suspect all four of the panelists will share that opinion!
Understood. I suppose in a way that’s sort of the point – lots of people write books, but very few actually get published! And there’s so much more to the process than just… writing a story, like you say.
As ever, tone doesn’t come across well on social media, but it was a light-hearted comment on the complexities of the submission and publication journey
Written a book? Congrats! Now the hard part: getting it published. But where do you start? Our Editorial Director, @emmajwaring.bsky.social, will be at Portsmouth Bookfest in March, attempting to demystify the process with a panel of fellow publishing professionals. wegottickets.com/event/683469

Looked at real world, (thanks @arrianna-planey.bsky.social) going back to my @jamesbluecat.bsky.social alt history police noir…
‘DI Drustan has to work without a Forensics team, tech support, legal counsel, backup or a coffee machine to call his own,' said Aedith. 'So, let's not get misty-eyed’
Alas, we don’t have the US rights so in fact James needs a US publisher 😁
PAGANS author @jamesbluecat.bsky.social was on Radio 4 this morning reviewing the papers. Find out his top stories of the day and hear his thoughts on the much-discussed “Wuthering Heights” adaptation by listening back on @bbcsounds.bsky.social from 38m here: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
We send our apologies to your wife, but also… sorry not sorry for publishing such a corker. Thanks for sharing, it makes a huge difference.
@jamesbluecat.bsky.social’s PAGANS is just perfectly balancing mismatched buddy cop, noir, and alternative history
I was late making dinner for the wife on Valentine’s Day because I got lost in it. (she forgave me, we’ve been together a bit)
Well I have to admit, we very much agree. Thank you!
Any remaining typos are on her 😘
Ooh how exciting! We’ll make sure @jamesbluecat.bsky.social says hello!
(And also, to be fair, the fact that it’s flippin’ brilliant).
PAGANS is number three in today’s Times Bestsellers chart! A huge congratulations to @jamesbluecat.bsky.social , and a massive thank you to all the @waterstones.bsky.social and indie booksellers who have got behind this book – its success is 100% down to their enthusiasm and passion.
