Rome Democratic Committee announces 2026 endorsements The City of Rome Democratic Committee has announced four endorsements for the 2026 elections, including for U.S. Congress and the New York Senate.

Living in a border region, tariffs directly affect our dairy farms, our small businesses, and cross-border commerce with Canada on a daily basis.

The Supreme Court weighing in on tariffs may sound like a Washington issue but here in the North Country, it affects real families, real farms, and real jobs.

Last week, the House voted to overturn tariffs on Canada, which would help North Country farmers like me save money on already expensive crop inputs. In Congress, I'll work with anyone to lower costs and make life more affordable for our community.

Today is the beginning of Black History Month. Let this month serve as a time to reflect on the profound impact Black Americans have had on the nation’s history, culture, and progress. Their contributions have shaped every part of American life and continue to do so today.

It’s always great meeting with farmers to talk about the local issues that matter most to them. Tariffs that raise costs, the loss of foreign markets, and milk prices that currently are no higher than they were in 1980’s, even as fuel, feed, and equipment costs keep climbing.

What an honor to gather with locals in prayer for the survival of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. This hospital is an essential part of our community. Losing it would be a travesty—costing jobs and, more importantly, critical care for the people who depend on it.

The overturning of Roe did not erase the need for reproductive freedom for women and families across the country. On this 53rd anniversary, we recommit to defending the right to choose and passing federal protections to ensure safe, legal reproductive health care for all.

Today we honor Dr. King not just with words, but with action. Progress is made when we expand opportunity, protect voting rights, and ensure fairness under the law. It was an honor to spend MLK weekend with the Rome NAACP and Zion Episcopal. Thank you for hosting us.
