Ooooh, how exciting! I’m always sad passing that building and seeing it empty since the TI left.
Are you based in York, too, then?

I would say it’s common to unravel a lot at any first attempt at a new technique 😉🫣

Photo of an early Christian cross in stone, often erroneously called a Celtic Cross. Quick explanation: The Celts lived centuries before Christianisation. The cross is missing about a quarter of its right-hand side. The top consists of a circle within which there is a cross shape, the bottom of which extends down more than the circle’s height. The cross itself is made of a Celtic knotted pattern. At the side of the cross stem, however, are depicted figures from Viking mythology. These early Christians obviously preferred to hedge their bets.

The cross is placed under a lean-to shelter with wooden pillars which is open to the elements at the left. In the background many more such crosses are visible, lined up in two rows on the right against the wall of the shelter.

This is an early Christian cross at Maughold, Island of Man, a so-called Celtic Cross (although that’s historically not accurate). I always wondered how to turn that into knitting 🧐🤓

Photo of six bobble beanies in six different colours: mustard yellow, fuchsia magenta, mid blue, natural tan, natural brown and natural black. There is a sheriff star at the front right which says Sheriff Alpacas and has the outlines of an alpaca with her cria above the writing, all in the centre circle of the sheriff star. The knitted beanies are made out of pure alpaca wool grown on the Sheriff Alpacas farm.

When I knit for the alpaca farm, I can never decide if I like the dyed colours better or the natural ones.
What’s your favourite?

Photo of a sloped attic window with blue sky and perfect summer clouds, below a blue seat with cushions in front of which is sitting a large teddy bear. The bear is called Trevor and is wearing a blue knitted sweater. There is a blue and white striped curtain on the left of the window and the sunshine is streaming through the window.

My knitting chair seems to be otherwise occupied 🧸😆🧶
Trevor says he’s only keeping the seat until I have finished my computer work.

We’ve had two heatwaves, so what does a dedicated knitter do?
Knit woolly hats, of course! 😆🧶

Stone-carving of a church door post in Barton-le-Street, North Yorkshire Wolds. The top carving depicts an angel with a lute, the bottom carving is an ornamental abstract with curly ropes and shell-like flowers. On the very right is a beaded, twisted column. Philip Moore, Emeritus York Minster Organist in front of the organ case at Hovingham, North Yorkshire Wolds. The organ case and double-manual console is made from simple unadorned pine. The bottoms of the painted front prospect pipes are showing above the console. The pipes are painted alternately in light blue and red with lots of abstract gold ornamentation.

Slowly catching up with my social media. The last three months were a bit very busy in the real world.

Last Friday, wonderful Organ Recitals with Philip Moore, Emeritus York Minster Organist in Hovingham, Slingsby & Barton-le-Street.

Description: Photo of a large, fluffy, dark brown teddy bear sitting down. In his right paw he holds a ball or skein of red yarn and he has a set of double-pointed needles tucked under his left arm.

I don’t think I have introduced my fluffy knitting helpers. May I introduce Trevor? He’s very squishy and great to test out a model. He’s also a great comfort with hugs when it’s frogging time!

Gosh, what an extraordinary shade of blue 😍💙. Perhaps spin it into lace weight and knit it alternating with another yarn which sets off the colour and the shimmer?

Four knitted bobble beanies on a black background with a sheriff star in the foreground which says Sheriff Alpacas and has the outlines of an alpaca with her cria above the writing, all in the centre circle of the sheriff star. The knitted beanies are made out of pure alpaca wool grown on the Sheriff Alpacas farm. They are in four different colours: natural undyed chocolate brown and tan and two in dyed colours of a fuchsia magenta and a warm mustard yellow.

It’s a strange world for knitters: we’re having a heatwave 🥵 and I’m knitting bobble beanies 🥶for the wonderful Sheriff Alpacas farm.

Anyone else who has started their Christmas knitting🎄? 🧶

Screenshot from the Finch Selfcare App: a cartoon finch with purple headdress and wings, dressed in rainbow headband, rainbow sunglasses, rainbow t-shirt, sweetheart necklace, purple trousers, red roller skates and purple lace wings is jumping up and waving a Progress Pride Flag. It is accompanied by a micropet in the shape of a pink heart with white feathered wings.

It’s Pride Month in June and today was the Pride March in York, Yorkshire, UK.
Let’s celebrate all being different and beautiful 🌈.

Photo of two sesame bars purchased at Lidl’s from the same shelf and on the same day.
The vertical bar on the left has blue and white packaging and a Greek logo, saying “Greek Style Sesame Bar”. The horizontal bar on the right has brown, black and red packaging and a Japanese logo, saying “Japanese Style Sesame Bar”.
The text superimposed on the photo says:
Lidl’s “Specials”
(both on the same shelf)
SPOT THE DIFFERENCE:
Greek Style Sesame Bar
Japanese Style Sesame Bar
Same weight
Same size
Same shape
Same ingredients
Same country of origin (Greece)
Same manufacturer!

Here’s a bit of clever marketing by Lidl’s!

It pays to have one’s wits about and don’t believe everything they say…!

A photo of two hand-knitted bobble beanie hats on a black background. The hats are knitted in pure alpaca wool in yellow and blue respectively made exclusively from the fleeces produced on the Sheriff Alpacas farm. There is a bronze Sheriff Star next to them which is the logo of the Sheriff Alpacas Farm near Sheriff Hutton, near York, Yorkshire, UK.

Wednesdays are Alpaca Knitting Days 🦙.
Actually, I knit that throughout the week but Wednesdays is when my knits return to Sheriff Alpacas Farm.
Post spring break, it’s back to full-on knitting 🧶

Pattern matching is so very hard, but also so rewarding. I’ve never dared something as complex as that 🫡
For the front two panels, they perhaps could have splayed out towards the top and then the pattern would have matched throughout (but that’s just my pesky perfectionist nagging 😆). Well done! 👏

The pattern is my own and I haven’t written it out yet or published it yet - probably later this summer on Ravelry.
The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK 🧶
