On this day in 1994, Nelson Mandela defied three centuries of white-minority rule and decades of racial strife in South Africa, becoming the country’s first-ever black president.
"We saw our country tear itself apart in terrible conflict... The time for healing of wounds has come..."

I think it’s incredibly important to expose kids to art. And adults too! Here’s my little nieces & nephews in Tuscany absorbing some Renaissance art with excitement & joy. It’s those emotions that artists must have & I think you will see that in the drawings in my thread!

Sporting icons Kellie Harrington and Katie-George Dunlevy will lead Mayor of London’s St Patrick’s Parade | The Irish Post IRISH sporting icons Kellie Harrington and Katie-George Dunlevy will lead the St Patrick’s Parade...

Irish Londoners have played a vital role in shaping our city, making London a better and more prosperous place.

London’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations are a key part of our capital’s cultural calendar and I’m delighted that each year the festival gets bigger and better.

Now is the time for Europe to show strength, not division, argues Sanna Marin Finland’s former leader makes the case for stumping up tens of billions more for Ukraine

Sanna Marin throwing some impressive shade here:

”To start, Europe must rid itself of the dangerous illusion that it is weak—and stop acting like it.

There is no trade-off between investing in the defence of Europe as a whole and investing in the defence of Ukraine—they are one and the same.”

Two joined porcelain shells in a sort of pram shape, with a tea light, glowing inside.

I picked up this porcelain light shell (tea light inside) by Wicklow based ceramicist Sinéad O'Moore, after seeing her work in Irish Arts magazine.

Setting up in the stunning Irish Embassy in Paris earlier this week for an elegant reception with buyers, media & fashion insiders. I’ve always wanted to visit Paris as a designer & being there with colleagues from the Council of Irish Fashion Designers was a truly beautiful experience.

Kilclooney Dolmen, a megalithic tomb consisting of an enormous capstone supported by upright portal stones, set in a rugged landscape in County Donegal under a cloudy sky

Kilclooney Dolmen • Donegal

One of Ireland's finest examples of a portal tomb, Kilclooney Dolmen is situated close to a number of other Neolithic monuments, suggesting this part of Donegal was an important landscape to Ireland's first farmers.

It likely dates to c.5,500 years old.

The world famous Strøget pedestrian shopping street in Copenhagen, from the air, filled with people.

One of the most successful pedestrian streets in the world, the Strøget in Copenhagen, was filled with cars until a 2 year pedestrianization pilot project in 1962. The opposition argued “no cars means no business,” but the street has been a massive retail success, the city’s busiest shopping street.

The Hill of Tara, showing ancient earthworks, from the air.

Thread: Saturday is Imbolc, which celebrates the first day of Spring in Ireland. It is an ancient Gaelic-Celtic feast & is also marked as St Bridget’s Day, its Christian re-incarnation. In schools children make Bridget’s crosses to celebrate it. (pictured: Hill of Tara)

A thick stone pillar with visible lines of notches carved into it, stands upright from a drystone platform or leacht, overlooking a valley in County Tyrone

Aghascrebagh Ogham Stone • Tyrone

This fine example of an ogham stone stands on a rise above a small stream in the rolling landscape of County Tyrone.

It reads:
DOTETTO MAQI MAGLANI (Dotetto son of Maglani)

Bike parking rack in the shape of a vehicle, with a sign noting that every parking space for a vehicle represents parking for 10 bikes. Close-up of the sign showing that one car parking space equals the space for 10 parked bikes

The math is the same in every city. Bikes and smart bike infrastructure SAVE a huge amount of space. And a huge amount of public money (infrastructure money, public health care money, & much more), a huge amount of ghg emissions, pollution and noise, & much more.

And then there’s what they GAIN us.
