1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Last night I went to the Puca Festival in Trim, Ireland.
It's all fun and games until someone unleashes a giant demonic hare.

Cartoon: simple black and white line drawing. A couple in a living room. The man is sitting in an armchair reading a newspaper, head turned slightly towards his wife who is standing at the window, tugging at the curtain and saying "I see the Renegade Master's back once again with the ill behaviour".
My most popular cartoon by a long chalk is also oddly niche, in that it mostly appeals to a generation who remember the song it refers to and enjoy the nostalgia for their youth. I can draw one for you if you like.

There’s good advice in the free pdf Tree Grower’s Guide. Critical thing to know is that their are perishable - like fruit. Within days of collecting they need to go into a moist (not wet) medium (coir, sand, etc) to overwinter outdoors or in baggies in fridge or be sown in pots or trays outdoors.

photo of paulina borsook
1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).
But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

The Kirk memorial service is set up as a religious revival (his killing has been framed that way by Cardinal Dolan & others). The singer says: "We want the Kirk family to be healed, and we want our land to return to Jesus." Christian nationalism had become part of Kirk's brand - it's on full display

AI slop steals from human artists and writers to enrich the billionaires that fund fascism. You will not defeat fascism by posting pictures made on the fascist billionaires' energy and water guzzling plagiarism extruder.

Extroverted man in a pink feather dress and coloured sunglasses (“anthropology”) sits next to introverted man in simple black attire (“sociology”) in a car.
One like, one #anthropology opinion.
1. our relationship with #sociology is modelled after Schopenhauer‘s porcupine dilemma. We’re so close, it hurts, so we overemphasise our differences.

The inferno of the living is not something that will be; if there is one, it is what is already here, the inferno where we live every day, that we form by being together. There are two ways to escape suffering it.

In case you're wondering, authoritarians use this strategy of escalation to manufacture crisis, provoke outrage, then use the reaction to justify repression. It’s not about restoring order, it's about creating a spectacle of chaos they can claim only they can control.

"It's liberating to come out as an asshole society"
Müller has long since realised that the climate battle is lost. Collapse is a reality. Now, activists in Germany are organising a camp to learn how to act within collapse
"Society is just doing what any man in a relationship does when confronted with his own failure and his own fuck ups. He turns away and doesn't want to be reminded of it. And not being able to prevent the climate catastrophe is humanity's biggest fuck up of all time!"

The audacity of Vance scolding Europe for having annulled Romanian election results due to Russian interference, representing a president who violently physically attacked the US system of governance and refused to acknowledge his defeat, still claiming the elections was stolen, is simply disgusting

a illustration of our standard kitchen onion, Allium cepa, from 1586. Handcolored engraving
a black and white photograph of a white man in a suit, holding stalks of some plant, possibly corn or some sort of grain. Photo depicts Nikolai Vavilov (1887 - 1943)
The world has been through anti-science cycles before, to disastrous results
On a detour on my lit review, a mosey through the history of our familiar friend, the standard onion (Allium cepa) brought me right to one of botany's greatest cautionary tales of what happens when ideology overrides data

And mobility is about space.
