4.0 stars This was such a great cosmere book! And reading it between Stormlight 4 and 5 is the PERFECT time. I saw a comment online about it that said they feel like this is as if BSandy was writing fanfiction for his own IPs and, I mean, I kind of feel it, in a good way. The implications that it brings up in all of the cosmere connections is wild too. So Sigzil hangs out with Wit? He gets a Dawnshard? Wit's Dawnshard? Or is it the same was one Rysn? Or perhaps they each have a different Dawnshard? And he broke his Windrunner Oath and then swore another Oath????????? Making me nervous for SLA5 As far as the individual story of this one, I really liked it! I think I was definitely more interested in the Cosmere connections and the implications that everything held, but the main story was by no means bad. I really don't have much to say about it though, as it follows your pretty typical BSandy pattern.
okayyyy next ofc i had to read the Sunlit Man!! these secret projects are wild #cosmere #booksky #sunlitman

3.0 ** spoiler alert ** I'm SOOO torn on this series. On one hand it is super fun to read, and I'm into Max and Tisaanah, and other the other hand there's just several other things I dislike. I thought the weaving of Aefe in with the Max & Tis chapters was great, especially cause the entire time I was REALLY into Aefe's whole story. I never would've guessed the twist with her story. I also really enjoyed it because my big issue with the series was all the weird vagueness behind Reshaye. I like hoe there wasn't much time spend on who the Fey King was. It was revealed pretty quickly that it was Caduan and I like that because it was very obvious from the reader's perspective. I hate waiting for the character's to catch up with me for reveals when reading. My main issue with this series is I don't understand the rules of the world very well. The magic system is soft, that's for sure, but it SO soft and loose that it feels like there are no rules and everyone can just do whatever. I dont like that. Speaking of magic, um, if Tisanaah is supposed to be this all powerful lady, I'm not sure what her magic power is besides illusions? She apparently fights well with a sword (though all the battles are skipped through) but apparently everyone sees her as a goddess because.... she can make a lot of magical butterflies???? WHat is she doing with all her magic she's pulling from Reshaye? Maybe I missed it, but I dont get it. Either way, I will be reading the third to finish up the series.
next i finished book 2 in the war of lost hearts, children of fallen gods. this was the best in the series i think, idk im so torn #booksky

I have SO many mixed feelings about this book. I liked ๐ข The imagery and descriptions were lovely ๐ข I thought Liwei and Wenzhi were cool; they seemed pretty distinct and different from each other with their relationship with Xingyin. ๐ข The individual adventured were interesting themselves, but there were problems. I did not like: ๐ด Xingyin was frustrating. I didn't feel like she had much of a character besides "hi im new and im good at everything." Its baffling to me that she was able to attract the two waring princes. It felt like the old mary-sue trope. also i get that she might have inherited a talent with a bow from her father but she never trained as a child, so to suddenly be the best that ever was in a few months is wacky to me. ๐ด The plot was all over the place. It moved SO fast; nothing felt very impactful or like it had stakes. And the random time skips didn't help. I didn't connect with Xingyin and Liwei's relationship because it was "oh they go along" to "suddenly two years later and they're SUPER close and secretly in love." She was also able to do this impossible task of getting the pearls from the dragons in no time at all. She was the first person that was nice to them so they gave her the power to control them? sure. Also why did the jade bow connect with her? Why is no one surprised? They made it seem like there was something super special about her, so I was also expecting her father to not actually be Houyi but nope. ๐ด while I liked the boys, I wish there was more to them. They were distinct in their personalities, but they were a bit bland until the end where we actually got to see the true Wenzhi. Liwei never really stepped up like that to me because we never saw the true him. I also just didn't believe their relationships with Xingyin. anyway I didn't find myself hating this. It just wore on me the longer I went on. I don't think I'll read the second one, but I'll probably read the other books from this author, like Immortal.
Last update tonight I swear! I finished this yesterday :) #booksky #daughterofthemoongoddess

4.0 โญ๏ธ What a cute little book! It was way out of my normal reading, and I've never read anything but this author before, but I got a signed copy from an event I went to and was super interested in reading it. I love the mystical, lyrical quality to it, and it definitely gives the vibe of being inspired by old stories. I'd definitely be interested in reading more stuff by this author because their prose is just so gorgeous.

3.0ย โญ๏ธ ย Beware of spoilers!! This book was fine, but very frustrating. Freya was kind of insufferable, and it didn't really feel like they were very "unfated" since like every single thing came true. I know several of the prophecies were false, but they all still happened. The bad guy was so cartoonish as well. Very much a trap the heroes, give them a villain monologue, and then leave them alive hoping they'll just die only for them to escape and win. "I should've killed you when I had the chance!" You sure should've. It was just very silly. The ending was very confusing and strange and the I just didn't enjoy the way that they won in the end. I don't know, it wasn't satisfying. Maybe because I didn't necessarily feel like Freya & Bjorn had earned it. Also the whole "wow my blood oath has actually be broken for like forever" was wild to me. Like in a bad way, not in a "wow that's so clever way" I know I'm harping on this book a lot, but it was fun, and Freya and Bjorn were cute (when she wasn't being dumb).ย
Finished this one up a week or so ago. I was a little disappointed, but it was still fun! #booksky

3.5 Stars This book was super fun, but I found myself frustrated a lot. Freya was just such a passive protagonist, it was so frustrating to just sit there and watch her do as she's told w/0 trying to get away or fix the problem. Her family didn't deserve her loyalty, Snorri sure as fuck didn't deserve her loyalty. Why didn't she try to help her family escape so she could also? Also, while I'm all here for her and Bjorn, they're relationship frustrates me because it felt like they went from 0 to 100 real fast. Im not sure what the timeline of the book was, but it felt like a week. So yeah, fun read but if I look to close it makes me mad.

2.5 theres just so much unnecessary fluff in these books lol i really dont care about the xander chapters and his issue with sophia and tyler. its not important to the plot of the book lol i think they played pitball in this book too, i can't remember but its all unnecessary lol im glad that tory wasn't under lionel's spell for long in this book cause that was just degusting and definitely nonconsensual. also its crazy to me that the 3 other councilors weren't willing to do jack shit once lionel took over.

4.0 Really enjoyed this little novella. Definitely longer than I thought it would be! I also enjoyed seeing Kelsier outside of his typical setting, and I thought it really showed more of who he was as a person (even if he was a shitty person). It cut off at a crazy part, but I'm sure more of that will be explained in the fourth Wax & Wayne book. Also the ending with Vin & Elend had me crying all over again

4.0 I'm so torn on this book! Beware of spoilers! The first half was a banger, I loved it. ANd then I got to the second half and I wasn't as big of a fan of it. Just like Shadows of Self, I felt like it began to lean a bit too heavily on Era 1, and didn't feel like it was really having its own problems, with its own bad guys. It felt like the same recycled stuff. Especially with the supposed not-death of a Lord Ruler leaving the basin? (I know the real thing, but at the time, everyone thought it was the Lord Ruler) In theory, I think it was really awesome to explore stuff outside of the basin/former final empire. But it felt tainted by being too much in the identity of Era 1. Also, at first, I thought the return of Telsin was frustrating, because it was obvious that she was a baddie, but it makes sense for Wax, because he was so blinded by like... idk a lot of things that fit with his character. The thing that kept this book from being a 3 star, for me, was the ending. The ending was so good. I'm a HUGE fan of Steris; she really grew on me and is my favorite character. So Wax's gift to her at the end had me tearing up, it was so sweet and lovely. And then OFC, the big reveal at the end with the coppermind.... That was also something I really enjoyed. I'm also not the biggest fan of the amount of Wayne we got. He is very obviously the comic relief, and bits and piece of him sometimes are great, but some of his sequences and what felt like fetch quests were a little too long winded for me.
im really bad at updating. but i finished the bands of mourning :) #cosmere #mistborn #bandsofmourning #booksky
16.05.2025 03:42 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0cover of Zodiac Academy: Cursed fates by Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti
there was a whole lot of "wow look how miserable I am" from just about everyone and that was frustrating. everyone who vouches for this series keeps saying "but all the suffering id worth it!" but idk about that...... also -- super spoiler. alert but the guardian bond works different for every single pair that has it. like this world lacks so much consistency it's crazy. why even have rules. for Lance & darius it's manageable, but inconvenient. for Lionel & Clara & Tory it's pure mind control & obsessiveness. also the court case was an absolute farce. Darcy could've easily said -- in court!! since they take sudden evidence!! -- thar dark coercion didn't work on Phoenixes but i guess the plot need Lance to suffer. okay but also if they have cyclopes that can literally read your memories, what's the point of the courts? they said they can't read the memories of people affected by dark coercion but couldn't they just prove if someone has been dark coerced if their mind is fucked up??? 0 sense ALSO the gabriel reveal was so frustrating cause it felt so random and also it was so obvious like why did not one mention it before, especially since his tatto with him and two Phoenixes was mentioned in Ruthless boys??? Also i know they didn't wanna spoiler Ruthless boys but the amount of exposition and skipping they did to not have to name Elise as his wife or even mention that someone can have multiple elysian mates is ridiculous. also but also wtf was up with Diego??? WAS HE A NYMPH?? and how does that make senseeeeeeeeee

4.0 Beware of light spoilers. The first Wax & Wayne book was novel and interesting and different, but this one, for a good chunk of it, didn't have that exciting "this is new and interesting" feeling. And then I got to the Sanderlanche and the end and the world just exploded, because why wouldn't it. I still love Wax & Wayne and Marasi, and Steris is even growing on me. I loved the cameos from Sazed and TenSoon, and I really enjoy the lore around the events of Mistborn Era 1. I thought this one relied too much on the past of Mistborn Era 1, and I was excited to see in the end that there was some extra elements added in.

4.0 Great start to the new Mistborn era! I love the genre mixing; western, noir, sci-fi, fantasy, so much going on. Huge fan of Wax!!! He's a great hero for the story, with lots of comfortable archetypes going on. Wayne is also a great comedic foil for Wax's straight man. I also loved Marasi, though I'm very sad Wax and Marasi don't have any kind of thing. I think she'll still be a cute sidekick to Wax and Wayne though!! I also have to wonder if any of them will Snap as a Mistborn as well ๐ค I was waiting the entire book, but I guess not yet. Also the end had me SCREAMING on Marasi's part!
