This was inspired by the tv show Chapelwaite which was in turn inspired by Stephen King's short story Jerusalem's Lot which was included in the 2005 edition of his novel Salem's Lot. I'll include some close ups in the comments.

I used some Photoshop tools like symmetry for the circles, or copypaste to cover a major area for the square pattern... but in the end a lot of the base pattern are hand drawn, and all the colours painted in to get the hue shifts
