And it's certainly not the folks living outside our major cities—many of whom proudly voted for the politicians who are cynically selling them out by eliminating the systems that once supported them.

Ask yourself: "Who benefits when 'We The People' are kept uninformed, angry, and divided against ourselves?"

It's not you, it's not me, and it's not our friends and neighbors.

ARIZONA: This is not a red-against-blue, "my team vs. your team" partisan issue. Public media is the *only* local media in many rural and tribal communities throughout our state.

Ask yourself: "Who benefits when folks are prevented from accessing high-quality news and educational programming?"

And, in a wildly cynical inversion, Antisemitism has flipped from being a deep-seated hatred held by the klan to (also) being something the 21st-century klan claims to be fighting against on Jews' behalf.

This calls for a more detailed critique, but I'm out of time for this particular TED talk.

What hasn't changed: the white supremacy, the Christian nationalism, the eugenics & racist pseudoscience, the virulent anti-immigrant rhetoric, and the public performance of violence, intimidation, and thuggery by masked men who've been deputized for precisely this purpose.

The 21st-century klan wears red caps instead of white hoods, consumes Fox News and alt-right podcasts instead of The Searchlight and other klan publications, and has traded secrecy for center stage. It has achieved what the 1920s klan could only aspire to: control over every branch of government.
