A book launch!
31.01.2025 14:54 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Very excited to reveal that we have taken on large parts of The Old Grammar School here in Lichfield.
The site dates back to the 15th century. We plan to transform its extraordinary spaces into a community heritage hub & a place to celebrate all our cityβs history.

Snowdrops sprouting through the ground, surrounded by fallen leaves. Some of the snowdrops are starting to flower. The snowdrops are near the towpath, but you can't see the canal in the photo.
A beautiful sight!
It may be cold, but the snowdrops are starting to burst through the frozen ground at Borrowcop Locks Canal Park, showing spring is on the way. π±βοΈ

Lichfield. Sometimes you have to take the scenic route home.

One version of the macabre motif can be seen near Lichfield City train station. Welcome to the Field of the Dead folks β οΈ
A city packed with extraordinary architectureβ¦
Lichfield has got plenty of Georgian buildings, a fair few of which hide much older medieval origins within.
Others more honest about their age include these part-timbered favourites, photographed this weekend on an icy early morning exploreβ¦ β¨βοΈ
Itβs long been suggested locally that JRR Tolkienβs tree-like warriors, the Ents, may have been inspired in part by this ancient oak at Cannock Chase, where he was based during the First World War.
Itβs extraordinary to see in person and well worth findingβ¦

Canal locks with a group of 19th century red brick on the right
Industrial buildings from the 19th century on the left with canal running past to centre and right. Buildings include a chimney, warehouse and workshop.
Autumn leaves and trees along the canal and towpath
Canal bridge, with canal in foreground and white cottage behind bridge.
Enjoyed a bucolic walk through an old industrial bit of countryside today. Fradley Junction had warehouses and was a hive of activity on the Trent and Mersey/Coventry canals. Further up the towpath is the old Creamery building at Kingβs Bromley Wharf.

A lane of secrets once THE big route out of the city east to Roman Rykneld Street.
It wraps around St Michaelβs hilltop, an ancient burial ground consecrated by St Augustine in the 600s.
The road cleaves through rock & the retaining wall inc stonework, random bricks & gravestone fragments tooβ¦.
A stunner of a 13th century moated site just to the west of Lichfield on Pipe Green.
Check out that LIDARβ¦
Wow. β¨
Thank you!
