Message from the OP to their D&D Dungeon Master, which reads: “I just have to let you know personally, even though I talk about it quite frequently online, that I’m so proud of you for taking over the campaign and quite thankful that you did. We got to see these characters out to the end, instead of them meeting a half-life that so many campaigns meet. Having the opportunity to fully play through a character to level 20, instead of implied, is a first for me & to bring us all there should be celebrated. While I thought I was going to cry at the final session, which I started to get a smidge weepy after Sam’s epilogue, I think it’s finally hitting me today. I’m excited to see what you cook up for those one/two-shots where we can “live” a little in that 20th level instead of immediately retiring our characters.”

Message by the OP to their Dungeon Master that reads (continued): “We talked about the feeling of imposter syndrome a couple sessions back and even though I’ve been GMing for a couple years now (coming up on 3 this summer), I still feel it & I know you’ll still feel it too - but that’s why I think it’s so important to tell anyone who runs games that I’m a part of that they have done an amazing job when I truly mean it. You deserve to know how amazing you’ve done with what you were given and I know that you’re going to continue to be an amazing GM, not just for our group, but for your game with your sister & anything other game you decide to run.” The Dungeon Master, Stephen responding to the message which reads: “Damn, this makes me sooo happy, thank you. I’m so grateful everyone gave me the chance to DM and I promise to make the next campaign even better.”

Us DM/GMs still feel that tinge of imposter syndrome at any point of running a game and to hear from your players & even outside viewers that you’re doing an amazing job means more than you know.

If you play #TTRPGs, whether in a home game or Actual Plays (in-person or online), be sure to thank your DM/GM for their work when you come to an end of a one-shot/mini-campaign/traditional campaign, especially when it’s one that you truly enjoy.
