The Neurolipid Atlas: a lipidomics resource for neurodegenerative diseases - Nature Metabolism The authors introduce the Neurolipid Atlas, a dynamic resource for the community to gain insight into lipid alterations in neurodegenerative disease, and they leverage the platform to show how cholesterol alterations in astrocytes can dysregulate neuroinflammatory pathways in Alzheimer disease.

Introducing the Neurolipid Atlas: a new resource for brain lipid research and neurodegenerative diseases | Amsterdam UMC Altered lipid metabolism in the brain is a key feature of many neurodegenerative diseases, yet comparing lipid data across studies has remained a challenge. To address this, Femke Feringa, Sascha Koppes-den Hertog, and Rik van der Kant, together with team of Martin Giera at LUmc, have developed the Neurolipid Atlas.

Our main conclusions:

➡️ Lipids are changes in multiple brain diseases
➡️ In Alzheimer and ApoE4 astrocytes triglycerides and cholesteryl esters accumulate

And, most surprising:
➡️ Altered cholesterol storage in ApoE4 astrocytes suppresses their HLA-immune function

CLU alleviates Alzheimer’s disease-relevant processes by modulating astrocyte reactivity and microglia-dependent synaptic density Genetic studies implicate clusterin (CLU) in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), yet its precise molecular impact remains unclear. Through u…

@cp-neuron.bsky.social! We show that Alzheimer's disease protective CLU alleles upregulate CLU in response to neuropathology, dampening inflammatory signaling between microglia and astrocytes.

Since everyone else is doing it… Here’s a starter pack for researchers studying the most interesting allele in AD. go.bsky.app/PDtaUP6 Let me know if you want to be added (doesn’t have to be the sole focus of your research). Also, it turns out a lot of my favorite APOE4 folks aren’t on bluesky yet.
