How we’re rebuilding the Weizmann Institute β€” and our hopes for a better future Scientific research is at the heart of Israel’s success and has worldwide benefits. Our work will continue despite adversity.

I share Alon’s hope : "I look forward to the day when Israeli scientists can freely collaborate with scientists in Iran and do good for the region and for humanity. I wish the same for scientists in Gaza and throughout the Middle East." @WeizmannScience www.nature.com/articles/d41...

For #worm25, here are updated lists of 200+ researchers for the #Celegans community to easily follow:

C. elegans #1 (150 full) - go.bsky.app/HP1h3nW
C. elegans #2 (50+) - go.bsky.app/J7soTHG

I am excited (as usual) about attending #Worm25. But I am also sad that so many friends and colleagues can't be there. Because you know....insane policies and war and such. Hoping the science will provide at least a temporary distraction from the unending chaos.

Sources of behavioral variability in C.Β elegans: Sex differences, individuality, and internal states Animal behavior varies across different timescales. This includes rapid shifts in behavior as animals transition between states and long-term changes …

How do different sources of variation, acting on distinct timescales, integrate to shape behavioral diversity?

Apologies, I guess it’s my over sensitivity, as studies in worms are often dismissed as irrelevant… in any case you are right of course. interestingly there are reported sex differences in stress related disorders and if the NPY system is involved is yet to be proven…

No need to whisper :) Indeed, the figure shows the worms :)
In mammals, NPY levels have been shown to differ between the sexes, making stress susceptibility potentially sexually dimorphic

Modulation by NPY/NPF-like receptor underlies experience-dependent, sexually dimorphic learning - Nature Communications Experience-dependent decision-making is vital for survival. Here, authors uncover how the neuromodulator npr-5 regulates sex- and state-specific learning in C. elegans, shaping behavioral responses.

After a long wait, our paper is out! We show that differences in learning between the sexes are modulated by the NPY receptor, which gates sensory perception. Great work by PhD student, soon to be Dr, Sonu Kurien
