The BBC reports that 200,000 Ukrainians in the United States are at risk of deportation. Even people with valid documents are reportedly being held by ICE for months.

The story at this point is why folks of color in Maine, who are quite familiar with our current governor and Senate candidate, Janet Mills, aren't feeling her. Why are so many of us still leaning towards Platner?
There's some real interesting observations as a Mainer about who we support.
This post is one of the many reasons I haven't written part 2 of my piece on Graham Platner. People are more interested in clinging to their beliefs than listening to someone who isn't a traditional journalist who isn't white but lives in Maine. I'm so tired of people outside of Maine.
PFAs (people from away) all mad at us for not supporting Mills don't know she vetoed or sat on every progressive bill put in front of her for 8 years.
She refused to sign the bill stopping PDs from cooperating with ICE, just a few weeks before the ICE surge began in ME.
She's Collins lite.
This is absolutely the truth about Mills and Maine politics. That woman isn't progressive. I'll stand on that. Some of my closest friends worked with her in the legislature, and let's just say, no, she won't have my vote in the primary.
That's my take. It's also the stuff that's not captured in the media and on these platforms. The national media isn't capturing these moments, but folks in BIPOC and organizing communities in Maine are seeing that.
Graham has been out on the street actively standing up for immigrants communities. Whether or not people think he is sincere, he picked the right side.
I understand that SURJ National just endorsed Graham Platner. I'm familiar with SURJ quite well, I started the Boston chapter back in 2016 and still work with organizers from Boston and Maine chapters.
Lot of thoughts on this, but until I unpack it with some colleagues, I'll mostly be quiet.
41 years old, evacuated here legally, asylum case pending, kidnapped while driving his six children (one a US citizen) to school. Dead within 24 hours.
Betrayed and murdered by the United States government.
42nd confirmed and reported death in ICE custody under Trump.
Mohommad Nazeer Paktyawal, 41, served alongside U.S. Army Special Forces in Afghanistan since 2005. He was somehow fortunate enough to have his family evacuated with him in 2021 when the U.S. abandoned most Afghan allies’ families.
ICE grabbed him on Friday and he was dead in under 24 hours.
A new solar co‑op program launched in north‑central Minnesota to help households and small businesses transition to solar energy more affordably.
The project, off the coast of Connecticut and Rhode Island, will ultimately generate up to 704 megawatts of electricity for New England's power grid — the equivalent of powering 350,000 homes.

“History echoes. I was born in Ireland where peaceful protesters were brutalized and murdered at the hands of British forces. Watching images of ICE and police in Vermont these past few days, the parallels are hard to ignore. Sunday bloody Sunday is painfully relevant again.“ by Maxine Linehan
If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power — not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.
All the world’s scum is in Dubai.
McGregor must be desperate to take part in the Dubai whitewashing social media campaign
Let us hope that they will never get the chance. It the UK electorate is stupid enough to vote in a Reform government, we are lost.

Emiratis, Qataris will have a different view than Saudi. This is also existential for their business models, both oil & future diversified
Emiratis, Qataris want to end the war quickly. Oil and gas production is being shut in. Their data centres are being bombed
To deliver pain to Trump via the AI tech lords, they’re indicating they will start pulling back their vast foreign overseas investments. Saudi is big ?

This is.....a PhD in political economy
Probably worth remembering that countries like Saudi Arabia are holding up our sham bullshit tech economy and that something like a war that puts pressure on them and disrupts their operations could set off a chain of dominoes that a lot of people aren't really discussing.
“Since ChatGPT’s launch, in November 2022, the capital expenditures of Amazon, Microsoft, Meta, and Google have exceeded $600 billion, and much of that spending has gone toward data centers...”

Russian intelligence operatives and Wagner veterans are reportedly on Russia’s shadow fleet tankers in NATO waters. As @olehsavytskyi.bsky.social writes for @euromaidanpress.bsky.social, these ships are part of Russia’s hybrid warfare system.
Europe must intercept them now. Stop the shadow fleet.
