My forthcoming (and debut) memoir was included in the @nytimes.com 21 Nonfiction Books Coming This Summer! See that person on the cover? They never would have imagined this– not even in their wildest dreams. @groveatlantic.bsky.social @cbuccibookman.bsky.social
My debut memoir with @groveatlantic.bsky.social comes out August 12th and here are the galleys! Six years of hard work. The cover is a picture of me from my first year on the hotshot crew. Twenty-one yr old me never would have believed this could ever happen, but here I am.
Going through the last of my book proofs. Went to see latest updated numbers on women in wildland fire. There's no info. It's been scrubbed by our current administration.
Same, Cari. I've missed seeing you and your wonderful mind online!
I have not been here at all but I will be here! It's a breath of fresh air.
I am so so excited!! Point Reyes is one of my fave places and I dream of the curation at PRB <3 <3
Well, it's really happening.
My life and writing transformed when I took the initiative to change how I did social media and screens. Now I'm leading a multi-month intensive to help others bring awareness to their SM and screen use. Join me!
Thank you!!
It's 2025 so I can officially say MY FIRST BOOK IS COMING OUT THIS YEAR! I spent SIX years writing this book about the seven years I spent fighting wildland fires and the history of fire suppression in the United States. You can pre-order it here at the @groveatlantic.bsky.social website:
So many people have been injured and killed, but so many local New Orleans folks are now facing trauma- their 2025 and beyond has been irrevocably altered, as has their sense of safety in NoLa. But New Orleans is such a strong, resilient city. My heart is truly broken.
Also just important to note that this is a Fox News article- the writer says that some ppl in the campaign were "apparently" aware while others weren't. The article is essentially a summary of a podcast episode, not actual reporting.
I don't think it's all Harris's fault. She had Biden's team running the campaign and they failed her. It's a party issue- can guarantee there wasn't one person on the team w/out a college degree or w/ a broad imagination. These are the ppl who thought Biden should run in the first place!
I just finished going through copyedits on my first book and there were very few suggestions that I turned down. I felt seen in the best way. I also learned some things. It was a genuinely pleasant process.
What have you watched lately that blew you away on any level? Any films or shows, new or old.
Nothing has taught me more about how white supremacy and classism and discrimination works in liberal circles than being in a PhD program. It's so subtle, but some of these ppl may as well be MAGA even tho they went hard for Kamala.
lol omg me too
In my newsletter today I wrote about why I don't celebrate Thanksgiving and offer a reading list composed of incredible Indigenous authors and their books- I'll be creating a couple more reading lists over the next couple weeks.
lands and even fighting for federal tribal recognition. I personally don't think we should be celebrating Thanksgiving as a holiday without working towards tangible reparations for all Native Americans and advocating for Native rights restoration in the U.S. We cannot and should not ignore this.
of colonization. Thanksgiving did not stop this violence-residential schools separating Indigenous children from their families and cultures continued for many decades after, as did federally sanctioned violence towards tribes. Many American Indians are still fighting for access to their cultural
Lincoln created Thanksgiving in 1863- one year after he ordered a mass hanging of Dakota tribal members. The holiday was meant to improve relations between northern and southern states as well as w/ Native Americans. It is a patently American holiday- one that refuses to acknowledge the violence
Authors Against Book Bans has posted an open letter demanding that publishers prepare for 2025 by protecting authors and the freedom to read.
In my forthcoming book I examined the hell that is working on a male dominated job- I know it wasn't just hell for me, but also for the men who didn't conform to the macho status quo. Being a human isn't easy, whatever your gender. Men are also oppressed by patriarchy.
I know from experience that there are many good men in the world. But my lorb, I want to know why there are so many terrible men. I mean, I think I know why, but if you're a man I'd love to hear your thoughts.
If you're alone today- know that you're not alone in that experience. It's okay to be sad or angry or content or even happy to have some time to yourself. If you're grieving...know that many of us have spent the holidays in despair. It does get better. I love you.
I'm spending Thanksgiving (a holiday created to erase the violent truth of U.S. colonization) alone, researching book stuff. I'm not upset about it- after 13 years without parents, I've learned to embrace solitary holidays.
Are you a writer with a book coming out in 2025? I'd love to make a starter pack for us. If you want to join pls reply to this or message me. And if you'd like more ppl to see this please share it! Let's support each other!
I made a TikTok about the true history of Thanksgiving and genocidal actions of colonizers and they deemed it ineligible for the FYP. This is why social media is a farce. Ppl can post transphobic and racist content but I can't post actual U.S. history without being censored.
This cover is so gorgeous!!!
