The problem is far bigger than Jeffrey Epstein | Rebecca Solnit Treating the scandal as an aberration misunderstands the global epidemic of violence against women

"One of the reasons the epidemic of violence against women is so unacknowledged is because cases like these are talked about individually, and often treated as though they are shocking aberrations rather than part of a pervasive pattern that operates at all levels of society."

I was a kid then so, while I remember the ozone hole, I didn't recall the denialism. It's amazing how the far-right just manufactures denial of basic science. Decade after decade peddling distrust of reality.

In the ’80s, it became obvious that Earth’s ozone layer was thinning—caused by chemicals in old spray cans and AC units.

But some on the far right denied it was real.

The world acted anyway. We banned the chemicals. It worked.

Trump's AI Action Plan is a blueprint for dystopia The president is trying to give Silicon Valley nearly everything it wants — at a price.

Trump's AI Action Plan is even worse than I thought it'd be. It's a tech industry wishlist with every box ticked. It signals the further coherence of Silicon Valley and the Trump-led federal government into a cooperative, automation-bent surveillance state. It's a blueprint for dystopia.

so when you…

• force this tech on most everyone

• block it from acknowledging trans people even exist

• remove lgbtq people from human rights reporting & allow ICE to conceal info on trans people in custody

…it seems like a good time for cis folks to stop considering political “compromises.”

No drinking or late nights: How 20-somethings are changing S.F.’s nightlife scene Parallel threats have sent San Francisco’s nightlife into a tailspin: The city is aging, making its economy increasingly dependent on older people. And 20-somethings aren’t filling the gap.

to be clear this is no slight against @jkdineen.bsky.social’s recent story, which did a great job pulling in many of the different threads/challenges affecting the city’s nightlife scene
