I often find people judging in this scenario are grasping at themselves and their own feelings about their weight or health or mortality. Over the years ive learned to ignore or try to turn moments like that into a chance to ask them how they are feeling.

Walking is free. Food isnt but I work within a budget and stay away from processed stuff best I can. I also give myself cheat days every few weeks. And if I cheat I just move on and move my body.
I also have friends that help me keep myself motivated and I have motivated them. Its a virtuous cycle.

Im almost 70lbs down. Ive done it through walking and a calorie deficit and eating for my hormones instead of following a nutrition plan that wasnt tailored for me. In terms of motivation: i want to outlive my enemies and look hot AF doing it. And defend myself against a nazi if I need to. Thats it
