A key piece of context on this report is that DAIR researcher Adrienne Williams is a former Amazon delivery driver and organizer herself, and the report builds on many in-depth interviews. β¬οΈ

@emilymbender.bsky.social & @alexhanna.bsky.social talk to journalist @deccamuldowney.bsky.social about how so-called AI tools are infiltrating newsrooms, particularly when it comes to data analysis.
π Below β¬οΈ
Light yellow background with black text reading: "Second, the use of cameras and other surveillance technologies must be highly constrained within vans. The use of these technologies is making the jobβand by extension, our roadsβmore dangerous, as drivers are many times preoccupied with avoiding infractions over making the necessary split second decisions and maneuvers that actually maintain a safe environment. These tools operate as a vector for driver punishment and surveillance, not safety. Furthermore, none of the technology should be required or allowed on a driverβs personal phone, which gives Amazon and other third party companies the ability to track and collect data from them while on and off duty."

Like, support vector machines and random forests are "AI" when it's convenient for these companies to try and skirt accountability, but when it comes time to do marketing, suddenly "AI" emerged in like 2022 and needs the power resources of a small country to do anything at all.

The cover of the zine, "Possible Futures" written in all caps in black at the top, with a white background. Then there is a blue background for most of the rest of the cover, with sketches of people all over the cover.
Left, an excerpt of the zine by Adrienne who is a middle school teacher. There are a bunch of plants and crayons, with the writing." There is as much art as there is science" Right, an excerpt from Margaret Mitchell, AI Researcher, with a bunch of cutouts. One says ";Road to Utopia", another says "Its influence begins in the plastic years". "Always Buy" "More Performance." "Order these now." "With open eyes and open minds, we can see so much more," and there is a picture of a yellow butterfly. Then more writing, "We are fierce curious, strong" "Giving back, climb mountains howl with the wind.""
