“Ticking Time Bomb”: A Pregnant Mother Kept Getting Sicker. She Died After She Couldn’t Get an Abortion in Texas.
Walker is one of several women ProPublica found with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions.
This Texas woman developed preeclampsia, leading to still-birth. She DIED, leaving her young son behind.
This happens while an all-male panel in South Carolina is deciding whether women should be charged w/ murder for their pregnancies.
Abortion is healthcare.
How many more women have to die?

In our household, we take to heart the message from wag who joked about writing a parenting book that would just communicate the following: "Good luck with that sucker, they're all different."

Can methane cuts pull us back from the brink of climate breakdown?
With temperatures breaching the Paris limit, experts say tackling the powerful gas could buy crucial time as the clean-energy shift stalls
“Methane emissions across the supply chain are a key indicator of poor environmental and operational practices in the fossil fuel industry. Reducing [them] in the energy sector is the most effective and rapid way to cut greenhouse gases in the short term.”

Every Ford scandal is enraging but it's also brutal to see the absolute GIFT it gives his opponents and yet, neither the Liberals or NDP ever seem to capitalize on it.
The NDP got some traction around Ontario Place then squandered it.

Ford has no business interfering in cities. He has zero idea or understanding of transportation or land use policy, nor the policy levers it takes to make cities work.

We're seeing lots of stories now with MDs urging Ontarians to get vaccinated. You know who we're not seeing in those stories? Ontario's public health leader, Kieran Moore.
He was quoted in a news release but has had no media availability. He should be playing a key role in promoting vaccination.

A photograph displaying the names of seven ancestors who died in rapid succession during the late 19th century.
I have an old memoriam marking the passage of a number of ancestors who died in rapid succession, likely of TB. I used to display it as a conversation piece, but their experiences now seem much less like a remote possibility these days.

My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

I wrote about this too. Why isn’t Ontario hitting the barricades in rage? We’ve so little lake access. Entirely privatized shorelines. You could give the province away to oligarchs & people would be meh. Thx to Fatima for calling this early on.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.
We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.
We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

It was said that the Air Canada flight 797 fire that killed folksinger Stan Rogers was caused by a cigarette left in the bathroom. It would have been hard to argue with banning smoking on aircrafts after that, and yet people remained amazingly selfish.

Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-tobacco playbook could help turn the US public against their beloved oversized cars.
This is a good article, worth reading.
Gigantic SUVs are a public health threat. Why don’t we treat them like one?
The anti-smoking playbook is worth studying and learning from, and is completely applicable to oversized cars.

When a family member was part of a private law practice, he dealt with a number of cases involving farms with exotic livestock herds. He became convinced that most of them were pyramid schemes, with early investors hyping up the earning potential to sell the animals to others.

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.
McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.
Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 930x the company's median employee pay.

The people who need help are not the problem.
It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.
