Funny story. I was at the pet shop befriending the rats (as one does) when I saw a sign there that had the lifespans of all the different small animals.
Rats are bros, but with their short lifespans I'd be in a permanent cycle of mourning... So I "settled" for chinchillas, as they can live to be 20!

A 3.5 foot wide and 8.5 foot tall cage in the corner of a room. The cage is split into 4 connected segments so the Chinchillas can run around play at their leisure with different toys, chews beds and hidey holes on each level for them to use as they see fit

This my Chinchillas home. At 8.5ft tall, I call it The Skyscraper 😂 it's big enough to have multiple hidey holes so they can get some space from each other when they want to be alone, whilst also having lots of different toys and spaces for them to play around

The family

Chinchillas groom each other with their teeth. It takes a while to get used to, but their gentle nibbles are a sign of trust and affection

Needless to say, I love it!

At first glance, it may appear that these 2 are enjoying sharing a delicious stick together.

Truth is, Luna (pink white) had a stick of her own, but dropped it to try and steal Rocket's (Gray) 😂

Looking closely you can see Rocket is holding onto it for dear life 🤣🤣

I was torn between getting rats or chinchillas but the chins won out when I found out they can live for 20 years! Life long friends 😊

One thing I'll never fully understand is why chinchillas love to fall asleep balancing on 2 feet whilst at the edge of a precipice 🤷‍♂️
