🚀 NEW GAME ANNOUNCEMENT!🚀

We're absolutely over the bloody moon to be making the Children of Time RPG!

Mina, Grant and Elaine have been sequestered away with author Adrian Tchaikovsky, building a new Ark to take you to the far reaches of space.

But what (or who) is waiting for you out there?

Prepping and updating my income spreadsheets as we near the end of the UK financial year, and jeeeeez it's so good to see how much of my income now comes from TTRPG work. It's going well.

The Monster Manual is Basic - Bringing Atlas Animalia to life. That's right, we said it! And so, what we really wanted to do with Atlas Animalia is look at what monsters look like in different ecosystems and ecologies, with 25 different creature types included in the book. The book begins with an introduction to

The Monster Manual is Basic. We said it!

So we made something to try and make improvements. Check out this overview of how Atlas Animalia came together, and maybe think about grabbing yourself a copy.

The BIG Event 2026
National STEM Learning Centre
15TH - 17TH JULY 2026

New for 2026!
Pay it Forward Fee
We know that the cost of everything is rising, and budgets are shrinking!

One of the biggest barriers to coming to BIG is the cost of a ticket, and so that’s why we’ve introduced a Pay-It-Forward option.

This is an optional £25 you can add to your booking, and provides a limited number of 1 day places to delegates who otherwise would not be able to attend.

Who is it for?

In short? Anyone, we’re not gonna question your need or reasoning. But we see it as being especially useful for freelancers, early careers science communicators and small businesses with limited budgets.

Are you someone who could benefit from the pay-it-forward scheme? Email our event manager Sam, at event@big.uk.com to chat,

Pay It Forward Fee ✨

We've introduced an option for you to add a £25 Pay-It-Forward fee to your booking this year, to help provide a 1-day place at the BIG Event for those who might not otherwise be able to attend.

A podcaster is saying "There's this beautiful quote from Dan Savage that I think about all the time. He said "During the darkest days of the AIDS crisis, we buried our friends in the morning, we protested in the afternoon, and we danced all night, and it as the dance that kept us in the fight, because it was the dance we were fighting for." The podcaster continues "I think a lot of us are missing the dance right now. A lot of us are stuck in the grief, both because we don't have a society that really makes space for grief, and because the dance really can't exist online. Be we need the dance." The podcaster continues- "It's not wrong to give yourself a break. It's not wrong to reset your brain. It's not wrong to find joy. It's imperative." It is part of the work to heal the world."

At night we dance 🥺

Love to Glasgow tonight ❤️ please dig out some decent ffp2 masks if you're going to be in the centre for the next week (if you're not already masking). That amount of smoke will be causing breathing problems in healthy people, as well as babies, older people and those with respiratory conditions.

Genuinely devastated seeing the fire at Glasgow Central station tonight. Fucking hell.

And for it to not be national news that everyone looks at is absolutely fucking wild. Wait till it impacts tomorrow's trains out of Euston I guess.

I am also shocked by the lack of coverage of this fire. It’s so far only affecting the Union Street buildings, but one of those has partially collapsed, from what I can tell backwards into the station. And it’s not yet contained. This is major and more than halfway down BBC’s homepage.

A mockup of the Blades '69 book where the 69 has been crossed out and replaced with 69 in bright purple.
Below that, the bio for April Kit Walsh which reads: April Kit Walsh writes games about feelings, vulnerability, and caring for one another, including Thirsty Sword Lesbians and End of the Line. She used to be a swordfighting ballerina, but claims those days are behind her; she has absolutely no idea who that masked heroine with the sword and the tutu might be. When not writing RPGs, April is a civil liberties attorney working to protect the rights of criminal defendants, activists, journalists, and everyone else impacted by the technologies of control or empowerment.
Next to the bio, the description for the $420k stretch goal:
Blades '69: The Sexual Revolution
The 1960s were a time when the counterculture challenged establishment norms around sex, love, family, and a person's right to choose what happens to their own body. How does this conflict manifest in Doskvol? How does the Consensus exercise control through these dimensions of human experience, and what struggles and delightful deviancies does your group want to explore? Blades '69 is a combination of a worldbuilding exercise and safety tool to help you bring themes of both real-world and fantastical sexual liberation to your game.

yeah yeah we saw all you sly posters going "Blades '68? ...just ONE off."
Well we're not COWARDS. Challenge accepted!
At $420k we'll commission April Kit Walsh (designer of Thirsty Sword Lesbians) to write up... Blades '69
Time to put your money where your mouth is.

Photo of 3 sawtooth star quilt blocks in cream, pinks and oranges

Start of a new quilting project - I have 7 colourways, each with 3 variations, and making 3 blocks of each variation. Adding sashing as well to make a full king size 100 inch quilt with double layered batting, no idea where I'll lay it out to make the sandwich or how I'll fit it through my machine 😂

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kākāpō chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!

Starting a game of Daggerheart was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

A good game yes, but the friendships that have developed are second to none. Best people.
