I bought a Brompton folding bike this summer and I love it so much. It reduces so much of the friction of dealing with a bike in a small walk-up apartment. And it’s so pretty!
This is the only time I’ve ever cursed out a stranger in public, but this car’s grill almost came up to my chin, and it did not show any signs of slowing down before abruptly stopping while I was frantically waving my arms before flinching.
A woman's voice yelled back, "We're very sorry!”
Oh, ok.
Just a few weeks ago while walking to a friend's house after dark I was almost murdered in the center of a crosswalk by an SUV—the third SUV in a row making a right-hand turn into the crosswalk without even slowing down for me while I was crossing during the WALK signal.
Last summer while walking through the park I heard the impact from a driver killing a cyclist on the street. I walked past the scene of her bike and shoes still lying in the road after she was taken away in an ambulance to die.
Cars are death machines and it sucks they're so normalized.
This summer I've finally been brave enough to start riding my bike around town after eight years here as a car-free pedestrian and bus rider, and it's been absolutely joyful.
But I updated my beneficiaries first, just in case.
My bird site usage is now solely searching "bluesky filter:follows" so I can throw out life rafts to those in need 🛟
One must imagine Sisyphus happy 🪨
I’ll look for you on Letterboxd in the meantime 🍿🎥
I’m excited to see more of the Trek community trickle in here! I’m nobody special, but last summer summer I put way too much effort into a Star Trek starter guide to send to friends.
I'm heading out of town for a date and asked if I should pack anything in particular. She asked for a sleeve of graham crackers.
it’s me, i’m the substitute teacher
ladies & gents: we got him
It’s been a hell of a week, but I finally made some time for tea, short stories, and a couple of Fellini films.
This was easily my favorite track on his new record, but it’s SO close to the track it’s paying homage to it’s almost distracting:
Plex (and their music player Plexamp) can be used with Tidal though if you like their interface but don’t want to set up your own server at the moment. But having your own files feels very good.
Simon is probably the person to ask! I run a Plex server for myself, and while I do have some FLAC rips, I honestly can almost never tell the difference in blind listening tests between lossless or even mediocre compression, so I don’t worry about it.
I’m still using them every day (with a slightly heftier braided cable and foam tips I replace every now and then) and they’ve suited me super well. AirPods Pro are more convenient (except for needing to charge them), but these sound much better to my ear.
Open-back club! (I have some Hifiman HE4XX) Note that if you’ll be in a shared space like an office, you’ll likely want closed-back headphones or earbuds/in-ear monitors (IEMs).
You can experiment with surprisingly inexpensive Chinese options too (YMMV)
Just singed the hair off my knuckles igniting the stove with an empty zippo to boil water for tea during a power outage.
I love type, and I love weird stuff on the internet. I’m excited to see what you cook up!
Every day I think more about that tweet where someone says their retirement plan is dying in the communist revolution.
What’s your preferred artistic medium? I’ve been painting a bit while recently unemployed, and want to do some linocuts and maybe a zine
Too relatable. Like, right down to the bowling! My crush didn’t even show though, so it was just me, my parents, and my best friend.
(Thankfully not on Valentine’s Day.)
I’ve been helping the owner of the local tearoom pack up her shop after twelve years, and it’s been a poignant experience. But I adopted several plants to live on in my apartment, plus a Bai Ya Bing Cha; a white pu-erh cake of a tea we shared earlier.
Thanks! Extending that logic to you, maybe you could just take up construction, then you’d have more walls than you know what to do with 🔨
I used to have the opposite problem, then started painting to fill my empty walls. I didn’t stop , though, so now I have canvases stacked in every corner of my apartment, and more stretcher bars in the corner 😅
Fascinating! Are you currently a podcaster, yourself? I’d love to listen!
Hey there! Software Engineer also recently fired in New England. I can’t help at the moment, but will let you know wherever I end up if there’s room for one more :) Your portfolio is stellar! ✨
I’ve only ever just joked about absconding into the wilderness. True respect to those who commit.
A friend highly recommended his recruiter to me, and I put it off for months, but finally reached out: she was fired for refusing to return to the office and was writing me while barefoot in the Guatemalan jungle.
My friend knows me better than I thought.
