Next Monday, we will finish the work of the 2025 legislative session.

In addition to balancing the budget, DFLers successfully protected nearly all of our 2023 accomplishments, and we will continue to fight for a future where everyone can get ahead – not just billionaires and big corporations.

While Trump and extremists try to roll back rights and vilify LGBTQ+ kids and communities, we will continue doing the work to make Minnesota a safe, affirming place for everyone to live and love as their authentic selves.

Today we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. May we work each day to build a nation worthy of their courage and sacrifice.

We declared racism a public health crisis, established the Select Committee on Racial Justice, and enacted many of the committee’s recommendations in the years that followed. We will keep doing everything in our power to prevent the senseless loss of life we witnessed five years ago.

If we were in charge, the budget deal would look a lot different, and it would do a lot more to lower the cost of living for hardworking Minnesotans. However, in times of divided government, people expect their elected leaders to work together, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. “I remain optimistic that the Legislature and Governor Walz can conclude our work in a timely manner during a short special session in the coming days, but that will only happen if we leave ideological battles to the side and focus on enacting a two-year state budget.”

Today the Minnesota House of Representatives adjourned the regular session and will return to the state Capitol for a special session soon to finalize work on a new state budget. Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman issued the following statement.

The House DFL is deeply saddened by the news of President Biden’s cancer diagnosis.

We’re all keeping the Biden family in our thoughts, and we’re wishing Joe a safe and swift recovery.

NEW: All session long, Republicans and their corporate backers fought tooth and nail to roll back the popular Paid Leave Law we passed in 2023.

We did not allow that to happen.

Democrats defeated *every single* GOP attempt to weaken, delay, or repeal Paid Family & Medical Leave.

While the Trump administration pulls back funding on the things we treasure, Minnesota is making generational investments in our outdoors, our people, and our future.

Our Legacy Budget Bill protects clean water, preserves natural spaces, and funds arts and culture.

BILL PASSED ✅: We just passed the 2025 Public Safety & Judiciary Budget!

DFLers worked to ensure this bill will make Minnesota safer, invest in victim services and police de-escalation training, and REJECT harmful GOP proposals targeting immigrants, protesters, and violence prevention resources.

BILL PASSED ✅: The House just passed the 2025-26 Agriculture Budget Bill.

We fought hard for a people-focused Ag Budget that feeds Minnesotans, safeguards workers and consumers, and supports small, emerging farmers in an economy tilted towards large corporations.

Yesterday was Mary Murphy Day in the Minnesota House of Representatives, and we took some time to honor and remember our friend and former colleague. Mary was a wonderful state representative and human being, and we miss her dearly.
