lay in shards / that the dry flowers were cast
across the rug - ancient seeds, crumbs -
such mornings
and the light reached all the way into the dark'

'If from the experience of torture any knowledge at all remains that goes beyond the plain nightmarish, it is that of a great amazement and a foreignness in the world that cannot be compensated by any sort of subsequent human communication.'

'I believe we learn to know by doing what we care about, and that this doing is the best route to a life well spent. The relation between doing, knowing, and caring is embedded in reciprocity; and reciprocity is contingent on receptivity.'

'But how describe the world seen without a self? There are no words. Blue, red–even they distract, even they hide with thickness instead of letting the light through. How describe or say anything in articulate words again?'

Nordic Voices in Translation A blog mainly about literature and life in the Nordic countries.

All definitions of emptiness
are inverse.
I cannot say what it is, I can only say what it is not.
I cannot describe its essence, I can describe only its effects.
Although emptiness is nothing, not even a space,
it produces spaces.

On the 7th day we rest our hands and read our books.

I don't know what it is about Graham's poetry. Can only ever read a few lines and need to let them sink in. To think about them, to understand their strength and to get to know the insight.

I want to make a celadon but less murky one and maybe with less speckle. Probably not easy. This was woodfired 2yrs ago. Celadon to me always has been the colour of eternity. Replacing the element. I love that it is called element.

'The underside of the leaf
Cool in shadow
Sublimely unemphatic
Smiling of innocence

The frailest stems
Quivering in light
Bend and break
In silence

This poem, like the paintings, is not really about nature. It is not
what is seen. It is what is known forever in the mind.'
